What's new in Videochat Extension?

Our patrons get access to much more accurate (and expensive for us) geolocation data and monthly progress reports.
Added integration with Patreon: you can log in to your account via Patreon in the extension menu to confirm your patron tier.
Redesigned the 'Map' section: added new settings and display of geolocation data in the popup.
Added our public roadmap integration: you can now vote for future features and suggest your ideas to improve the extension.
Minor fixes and improvements.

This is a big update with the first steps to make further development more stable through integrating a public roadmap and the patreon page.

Patreon subscribers get access to much more accurate and expensive geolocation (which can't be provided to everyone for free) and other minor benefits like progress reports for each month.

This update also brings minor changes to the Map section.

Patreon.

You can now support the extension on Patreon.
The goals of Patreon are to provide patrons with the best geolocation accuracy possible, cover the costs of the extension, and ensure its independent development for many years to come.
The only difference is the use of a hundred times more expensive geolocation service, which provides a more accurate determination of the possible location of the interlocutor.
Patreon will re-new the pledge on the first day of the month. You can unsubscribe at any time.
At the end of each month, we will publish an extensive report for our patrons on Patreon about the status of the project and the work we've done that month.
Subscribing to Patreon should be taken solely as voluntary support for the development of the extension (which we have been developing and maintaining on our own for the last 2.5 years).

Geolocation for patrons.

Added a new IP geolocation service for patrons, which provides a much more accurate geolocation of the interlocutor and his city.
We can't guarantee 100% IP geolocation accuracy (that's only available to the government), but for our patrons, we'll use the best and most expensive service available.
It's not possible to use this geolocation service for all of our users - it would cost thousands of dollars a month, which is too expensive for an open-source project.
Improvement of geolocation quality depends on the interlocutor's country - read more here. The accuracy will increase significantly in most developed countries, but not for mobile networks.
To activate, you need to subscribe to Patreon, log in with your account in the extension menu (popup that opens by clicking on the icon extensions), and enable the patron geolocation in the settings (after that, you need to reload the page).
The confidence zone shown on the map will become much more accurate. This is the unique feature of the geolocation service that we use only for patrons. The city is also often defined more precisely, especially in small towns located in developed countries.
The quality of cellular geolocation will not improve much, so it is better not to enable it.
We implemented a quota system that prevents us from spending much more on your requests than we received from your subscription to Patreon.
Under normal human usage, you are unlikely to run into a quota: we use our limited resources very efficiently and only count requests we have to pay for in the quota.
If you run into a quota, you will continue to receive cached data from other patrons.
The quota resets every first day of the month.
The quota is a security measure against possible abuse.

Section 'Map'.

Added support for displaying multiple zones at the same time.
Added popup with data about the zone (country, city, region) - it opens by clicking on the marker.
By default, the popup opens automatically. You can turn off this behavior in the geolocation settings.
Added several settings for the map (in the geolocation section). For example, you can turn off auto-zooming to the coordinates of the interlocutor or turn off changing the center of the map.
Increased the approximate radius of the cellular geolocation zone from 300km to 500km.
Increased the approximate radius of the wired geolocation zone from 30km to 100km.
Added display of the proxy/hosting zone in a black color (500 km).
For Patron-only geolocation, the confidence zone depends on the geolocation service - it is determined much more precisely!

Canny roadmap.

We have integrated the canny.io service into the development process.
Canny.io has a Roadmap and two boards - Community Requests and Developer's Ideas.
In Community Requests, You can submit ideas and vote for other users' ideas. An idea can be any suggestion to improve the extension: a new feature, an improvement for an old one, support for a new platform, or a new UI language.
In Developer's Ideas, only the developer's ideas/plans are published. You can discuss and vote for the ones you would like to see in the future.
In Roadmap, you can see what tasks are currently in progress, what are planned, and what we are still thinking about.
