First C-Rank Mission (IV) [Chapter 28]

My training kicked in and I whirled around on her heels, putting as much power as I could into my feet so that I could jump away from the voice while turning around at the same time. My gaze finally focused on the three people standing at the end of the staircase and I internally grimaced as I realized something.

Both Yoruichi and I failed to notice their arrival and if they had tried to kill us, instead of alerting us, then both of us would have been dead meat… I glanced toward Yoruichi from the corner of my eyes and it seemed that she had also reached the same conclusion.

By the time we landed on our feet, both of us had kunias in our hands and moments later, both of us were channeling Lightning Chakra into our kunias…

“Ho… Ho… Ho…” The presumed leader of the group laughed joyfully with a wicked gleam in his eyes. “Don’t kill them, they will be pretty good sacrifices for Jashin-sama” The man declared with a mad grin on his face and the two men behind him started to grin similarly. Fuck! They are fucking cultists, just what I needed. I groaned internally.

Thankfully, the two behind the presumed leader were pretty young, which would translate to them being Genins…

“Fan out. I will deal with the bigger one, you deal with the other two” Yoruichi stated in a firm tone. There were no traces of her usual flirtiness in her voice, she was completely serious right now and considering our current predicament, I wouldn’t have expected anything less. Just after Yoruichi finished talking, she disappeared from her spot in a burst of speed.

“You are pretty fast, girlie. Jashin-sama will be pleased when I sacrifice you!” The leader crowed happily. My eyes grew wide in shock when I saw him stop Yoruichi by grabbing her arm, instead of trying to parry her attack with his own kunai or something. The man didn’t even look fazed in the slightest…

My inner otaku was screaming at me to burn such a cool scene into my memory, but I had other important things to worry about, like my own survivability…

“Rraaahhh!” The two (most likely) Genins came rushing at me while screaming at the top of their lungs with kunais in their hands. Their disgraceful forms were enough for me to know that the two of them were complete novices, and considering Yugakure was only a minor village, they were probably never trained properly. Sometimes, I feel I am really lucky to be born in a place like Kumo.

My grip on my kunai tightened as I rushed at one of the Genins using the same technique Yoruichi used to rush at the leader. The Technique might seem something special, but in reality, it was an extremely watered-down version of the Third Raikage’s Lightning Chakra mode. The Technique was created by Yoruichi after she got to see the Third Raikage in action during the Second Shinobi War.

During the past eleven months, I learned the Technique from her and while I was better than her when it came to the Technique, I lacked her experience…

I kicked away one of the Genins, but I failed to control my trajectory, which saved the kid from instant death as I was aiming for his chest or his head, but from the snap I heard, I was sure that I was able to break a bone or two, or I might have dislocated his shoulder. I couldn’t be sure, after all, I wasn’t a Medic-Nin. Maybe, I should get a couple of lessons from Mira.

Surprisingly, the other Genin was much better than the first one because he was able to move out of the way as I swung my kunai, but he wasn’t able to escape unscathed. I was able to nick him on the arm and that was going to be enough. While I didn’t consider myself to be a poison master or anything, all of my kunais were bathed in a paralyzing poison.

The Genin glared at me, but didn’t make a move… He had realized that blindly rushing at me wouldn’t work since I was faster and stronger than him. Alas, I wasn’t planning to give him any sort of reprieve… I could see that the arm I had nicked was still shaking thanks to the Lightning Chakra I was channeling into my kunai, so without wasting any time, I rushed at him, but this time, I didn’t use the Technique.

With my free hand, I pulled out another kunai from my hip pouch and started to channel my Chakra into the kunai… I swung one of the kunais at the Genin and this time, he used his own kunai to block my attack, which was a big mistake since my kunai easily sliced through his kunai like a hot knife slicing through butter. His eyes grew wide, but once again, he managed to move out of the way of a fatal blow.

Still, I managed to nick him and this time, I used the Technique to rush at him, not willing to let him create distance between us and this time, he failed to move out of the way as I buried my other kunai into the chest… The boy wasn’t much older than me, and he could only stare at me in disbelief as I pulled my kunai out of his chest.

Soon, the disbelief on his face changed into rage before he finally plopped down on the ground… He didn’t survive long enough to realize that he was poisoned. Pity…

With one of my targets down, I decided to finish the other one, but I froze when I remembered that they worshiped Jashin… So, it was quite possible that they were immortal. I started to feel dread well up in my chest before I decided to simply remove their heads, just to make sure, but all of those thoughts left my mind when I heard a scream from Yoruichi.

I whipped around only to find Yoruichi still standing on her feet but with a kunai buried in her left shoulder…
