Hey guys. Another 80s thing.
I decided to use his very famous LIVE version, not the album one.
That moment when Phil was singing and then he walked to his drums and was singing while drumming in the end of the song mesmerised me. I so much wanted to be a part of it, at least like this!
Some "behind the scenes" info. So they used vocoder. (Vocal coder) - A device that first appeared in the first half of XX century. It advanced a lot in the 80s. So it was a device that you set up between the microphone and the speakers. You sing your song as usual but in the speakers you get 3 or 4 voices instead of 1. It kind of created a chord, a harmony out just one voice. It all sounded a bit like a "robot" in the end. So in this song Phil was singing to his regular microphone, while his other musician sang same melody but using vocorder. I was trying to find that vocorder effect on my program, I couldn't find it!! But I wanted to make this effect on my second voice. So instead of vocoder I found another effect called "Phaser" - don't know how that one works but it sounded like a "robot", but it didn't make 3 voices out of 1.
So I had to record full chords and then on each voice I put this "Phaser" effect that gave me that very similar "vocoder" sound. That's why you see 4 back vocalists instead of 1 :)))
I'm sure there IS such a thing as vocoder in my program because it's very advanced but as far as I only had several days to prepare this song I count every minute - so I didn't keep on searching, to me it was much easier and faster to do 4 voices.
Thank you so much for your support!!!
