February! A few key but important changes. Votes needed!

It's February! What a strangely named month. All these years I say "Febuary" instead of "FebRU-ary". Well, whatever you pronounce it, there are some changes taking place on my Patreon and how I'm going to do things. While it's not a -huge- problem for me yet personally, there are still people that pledge, get all their content, and then leave before they are charged. They're basically telling me that they like my work, but don't feel it's worth their support. It's silly because all my stuff is posted publicly anyway, the bonuses are high-res, PSDs, etc. It's not like my Patreon is a paywall and I'm ripping people off with expectations, no, if you've seen my stuff online, then you know what you're going to get. Exceptions are occasional unposted sketches and alt. versions like wallpapers. The way most Patrons I've seen combat this is by not posting anything in the activity feed. Instead they just send out PMs to those whos payments have gone through. I don't think this is nearly as fun, since a lot of you seem to enjoy the periodic updates in the feed, comment on them, and I like hearing them back. So I'm going to try and reach a halfway point. Changes are: -HD tier gets 2 votes for the pinup, PSD tier gets 3 -PSDs won't be uploaded in the feed, just included in the ZIP file I send out at the end of the month -The activity feed will be cleared of old content. There will be a 1-month block of content up at all times, meaning, it's February now, so January will remain up for any new Patrons to see, yes whether they end up leaving or not, but December content is removed. This only applies to HD/PSD/unique posts. Sketches, tutorials, ask ARA, and announcements I may leave up. - If your pledges are consistently declined (2+ months) I will remove you as a Patron. I don't think this bans you, but removes from the current content cycle and updates. Even if it's just a simple processing error, it's not personal; you're welcome to pledge again if you get it corrected. -If you pledge a very high amount and it gets declined, I will remove it as well. What does this mean? If you pledge to support me continuously, it means very little/not much has changed. That's all, really. Took longer to explain than I thought, but I just wanted to be thorough and clear, and hopefully it all makes sense. As always, PM or comment with any questions or suggestions if I've made an error or such. I just want to make sure that the people who go out of their way to support me with time and funds get the proper thank-you and bonus content they chose, and not some random folks who don't think it's worth the dirt-cheap prices I've set. I will also finally be starting comics this month, even though the goal wasn't reached (total on the page is misleading, and counts declined pledges)! I will make a seperate post about that soon... =============================== February Votes! Votes end 2/9 =============================== (remember: starting this month, HD tier gets 2 votes for the pinup, PSD tier gets 3, based on payment processed for Feb.) Vote on the pinup! 1) Pinup Ideas so far, votes carry over: Fandom characters (cycled out as completed, large roster): Captain Amelia (Treasure Planet) x4 Krystal (StarFox) x5 Lola Bunny (Space Jam) x4 Mink (Dragon Half) x4 (or suggest another) Personal characters (will always be up here to vote on): Ayn Vikna ARA Nytro (or suggest another) 3) Tutorial ideas so far, votes carry over: A shading tutorial A colour tutorial A composition tutorial A technical tutorial A character tutorial

Comments

Thank you! Glad you think it's all been reasonable so far

FluffKevlar

Yeah, that's another reason I like posting in the feed; seeing people's votes and comments on each individual picture is much more rewarding than simply sending out links/ZIP files alone. Thank you!

FluffKevlar

That's alright; I'l never go after anyone for un-subbing. There's plenty of reasons, I would never assume it's cause they're all selfish. It's only when I get emails of their pledge changes like, constantly, or months in a row, that I know what's up, and have only once actually sent out a PM about it.

FluffKevlar

I vote for Krystal and ARA! Pretty crap people are backing out of funding like that... Never realized the number on the front page included rejected pledges either >,

I am not disagreeing, I am simply pointing out thing are more complicated than what they seem on the surface. That is the one things I have learned well. I am also sure Patreon is aware if creators have been complaining to administration, and I am sure if they are aware, they are trying to work out a resolution. There is unfortunately no perfect solution. It is one of the inherent flaws to the system. One thing that was recommended is that they take the designated amount initially and then at the beginning of each month like normal there after.

Adleisio Cefnfor

They have to. It is also their money! And the have to show their direct customer (the artist) that they care, otherwise The Artist will leave to a better side.

Nightdancer

I think the new changes are pretty reasonable. Sadly there will always be leechers who find ways to abuse the system. Keep up the great work though and more honest people will come and contribute. Voting wise, I would give my votes to Krystal, Ayn and the Character Tutorial.

LouderTayl

Forgot to vote in a previous comment. 1) Krystal 2) Ayn 3) Character

I think some of it is that Patreon, as a site, has to inherently relinquish a large degree of control to the artist/crafters/youtubers/etc. which kind of leaves this an open problem. I do agree that this is problematic, and Patreon as an organization should do something about it, but it might be hard for them to track it on the flip side.

Adleisio Cefnfor

Patreon should react, because it is in their own interest to do so. Imho they should track this and at last shut down that account and blacklist the e-mail address to make it more "difficult" just to make a new account. Still far from impossible, but they have to make it clear that this is not tolerated.

Fandom: Krystal Personal: Ayn Tutorial: Character Tutorial

MasterDust

1 vote for Mink, 1 vote for Nytro!

André

I vote for Ayn and character tutorial.

Tank Hamster

Krystal and Composition Tutorial.

Drynwyn

Hmm... 1 for Krystal and 2 for ARA. =)

Prednizone

Patreon eats too much money at the end of the month I think that's why people quit, but quitting before pledging it's stupid, really :/ Patreon should fix leechers

WhitePhox

My 3 votes: -Lola Bunny -shading tutorial

Nightdancer

1) Nytro or maybe Rane :) 2) Shading tutorial

Naevaris

I'd say ARA and the colour tutorial

Commodore Cougar

I'm voting for Ayn and a shading tutorial!

Bionet

I'll put my two votes toward Lola.

Nathan G.

I have to say I basically ignore PM'd rewards for the patreons I'm on. It's too much bother to download a zip file, poke through the contents, etc etc. Basically if it's not in the feed, or posted publicly elsewhere, I'm just not going to see it. Thankfully it's not a big deal since the main use for patreon for me is to just give money to artists whose work I enjoy.

Nicoya

1) Captain Amelia 2) Colour tutorial

Volpethrope

I can fully understand your reasons, it can get frustrating if you're expecting one ammount but then getting a completely different one. I've been supporting you for a long time now, and I'm glad! You've made some amazing stuff in your time on patron so far! And I look forward to your next stuff <3 Also, my vote is for Lola Bunny :3

Alexis G Lemur

I understand the need to do these changes. Personally, there are certain months that I cannot support some or all of the artists I'm pledged to, however I do try to pledge every month if I can. As for me, you already know my vote. Captain Amelia.

Mitch Rapp

I vote finish that Vikna pic you posted earlier. :D

Silvador

Well, that's too bad to see that when a site's beased of people's good-will, there will always be parasites looking for the rewards without fulfilling the conditions... I think your idea is fine, the only thing is that we'll have to save the stuff prior to this post before it's removed. For my own, I do think what you post's worth the reasonable investment. Concerning the vote, 1) Pinup: Krystal or ARA, I like them both! 2) Tutorial idea: I'd enjoy to see a colour or character tutorial, I'd like to know if I have the basis right! Thank you again for all your hard work!

Techorb

Where is my one up button, because I feel this is a common problem artists are facing with patrons here on Patreon. I feel bad for the artists who do get robbed this way. Though the only issue I see is that people will pledge, get the stuff from the feed for that month, unpledge, and then do it over the next month.
