The safest option would be to discard the intent instead of passing the buck. That route was also impossible. The Killing Intent was true to its name. It existed with immutable intention, and overruling its will was impossible at Zac’s level. Just thinking about forcibly extracting it made warning sirens go off in Zac’s mind.
Refining the intent with [Void Heart] was equally unfeasible. This batch of Killing Intent wouldn’t just blow [Void Heart] to smithereens; it would possibly wreck his personal Void. While the pure intent was closer to the intangible force of Heart Cultivation than Dao or energy, it was at a level far beyond his bloodline’s ability to control.
It was also for that reason Zac was reluctant just to throw it away. It didn’t feel like the warriors had left it with him for no reason, and interacting with such powerful yet docile Killing Intent was a huge opportunity. Even if he couldn’t control it, the intent held tremendous research value. It was giving him a masterclass in truly harnessing the power of one’s Killing Intent. Kator’s manipulation was a paltry trick in comparison to this natural command.
Hopefully, his other half would see things the same way.
Zac quickly went through a series of tests until figuring out a viable transfer method. Using his Earthly Dao of Defiant War as a lure, Zac attracted the intent into his Duplicity Core and Soul Aperture. From there, roughly half of it moved over to his other body on its own. Zac repeated the process over and over, each cycle lessening Saṃghāta’s crushing pressure. Better yet, Zac managed to ferry over huge amounts of Crushing Death with each cycle since it followed the intent.
Ninety-five percent proved to be the limit. Not because of a problem with his method, but because the first surge of Killing Intent—the one he received upon communicating with the Eternal Avenger—ignored his attempts at drawing it over. It doggedly continued its steady journey through his body, cycle after cycle.
Zac was exhausted at that point, and he gave up trying any further. More than fifty bones across his body had shattered under the Crushing Hell’s punishment, and his insides felt like mush. At least he was alive, and the remaining sliver of Killing Intent didn’t add enough pressure to worsen his wounds any further.
It did, however, more than double the usual pressure. Adding to his weakened state from [Arcadian Crusade]’s backlash, Zac couldn’t so much as move a finger. As for finding his companions? They’d simply have to come to him. With the Sangha continuously being pushed back, his current position was possibly the safest place in Saṃghāta.
Zac only had to wait ten minutes before Tavza returned to his side. He wanted to get up and greet her, but his body may as well have been glued to the ground. Zac settled for an ugly smile that he hoped conveyed that he was better off than he looked.
At that point, the gains to his Imperial Merit had drastically slowed down. It matched the empire’s advance grinding to a halt. While the Sangha’s plot didn’t work out as hoped, they were still a force to be reckoned with. While the empire’s champions used slaughter to empower themselves, the Buddhist apparitions used their own suffering to be reborn with greater merit and deeper enlightenment.
“I’m sorry; it took us a while to find an opening,” Tavza explained.
Apart from a slightly unstable aura and weakened bloodline pressure, it didn’t look like the Sangha’s descent had caused her any major harm. Most likely, they’d retreated in time when the apparitions began appearing.
It took a moment for Zac to notice that the Draugr had brought a pale-faced Ogras with her. She held the demon by his ankle and dragged him along like a sack. While Ogras was in a better state than Zac, he had clearly suffered more since they parted. His face was as pale as a sheet, and his aura was unstable. Zac could sense lingering traces of Dharma in his shadows. Ogras clearly hadn’t managed to resist the eruption as well as Tavza, and the Karmic Energy was amplifying Saṃghāta’s pressure.
“Is this what counts as being immune to Karma?” Tavza continued with a shake of her head. “So much for escaping the falling Heavens.”
“He’s still in one piece, isn’t he?” Ogras countered with a weak grin.
Zac tried to explain that his predicament was brought on by something else, but all that came out of his mouth was a strained, “Auerh?”
Communicating telepathically was also a no-go. That ability, along with his Soul Sense, had been forced back into his aperture. It was at that point that the horizon lit up with golden light. Zac frowned, sensing that one of the Eternal Avengers had fallen. It was the first and undoubtedly not the last. The spiritual automatons might have an unlimited lifespan, but they were spending large amounts of energy to push back the invaders.
“I thought the baldies were supposed to be vegetarians. They’re putting up quite the fight. I guess they’re not too happy about having a second plane snatched out of their hands,” Ogras muttered. “Bastards who won’t even spare innocent bystanders.”
“This is what you get for running around harvesting lives like they’re nothing. We’re living in the Era of Order, and Balance is Heavenly Law. You won’t have to wait for the Sangha to punish you if you two keep this up,” Tavza chided.
“How about we do the sermon after we’re out of here?” Ogras said. “Girl, why are you staring at me like that? I’m sure I told you not to go falling in love.”
Tavza glanced down at Ogras. “It would be quite easy for me to kill you right now.”
“But then the lost son of the Abyssal Shores wouldn’t look on you so kindly anymore,” Ogras grinned, not the least fazed. “And then who’d take you on all these fun little escapades?”
“Eurugh,” Zac agreed with a failed attempt at a nod.
Tavza exhaled, and Zac was happy to find his treatment much better. Instead of being dragged by his ankle like a sack of garbage, Zac was hoisted under Tavza’s free arm. Ogras muttered something about discrimination under his breath until his complaints were silenced by smacking into a piece of rubble left from the shattered boulders.
“Let’s go. I’ve already traced the source of Imperial Faith. The realmgate should be there,” Tavza said, ignoring Ogras’s loud curses.
For a moment, Zac glimpsed a trace of a smile on Tavza’s face. Then, the world turned into a blur as Tavza rushed off toward their next adventure.
------------
After witnessing Sevona’s final journey and the betrayal of her closest confidante, the dream quickly turned into a nightmare. Zac was dragged through contradictory and surreal scenes one after another, which grew increasingly twisted by the corruption. From what Zac could tell, they were scenes of the real hunts, providing glimpses of the kingdom’s past.
Since Zac felt no immediate danger to his life or his mind, he allowed himself to be dragged along. He hoped the taint-laden visions could provide clues about what the invaders were up to and the Lost Plane’s connection to Sevona’s Kingdom.
The visions shattered before Zac could even catch a glimpse of the hunting lodge. Replacing the scenes was a deluge of Killing Intent beyond anything Zac had ever faced before. The Dream Energy was torn asunder, and Zac woke up with a gasp. He was lying on a beach made of polished stones, pelted and polished by a dense torrent of Dream-imbued rain.
Following on the heels of the Killing Intent was more Crushing Death than what his other body had managed to ferry over multiple weeks. The amounts were enough to actually mimic some of Saṃghāta’s absolute suppression, and he felt as though he’d been thrown into a powerful gravity array.
Neither his Soul Cores nor Cosmic Core were in a perilous state. Esmeralda remained sound asleep inside the Shrine of Kanba, surrounded by a haze of Dream Energy. There was no sign of Idiche or her boat. Seeing as she was a sleepwalker, she might already have rushed into the jungle. Clearly, the narcoleptic pirate’s secondary personality had her own ideas.
After taking a second look around to confirm there were no immediate threats, Zac began accommodating the transfer of energies. There was no communication crystal in [Purity of the Void], yet Zac understood something big must have happened on the other side. His human side had no choice but to take such a drastic measure.
Zac arduously resisted the Crushing Death to get back into a sitting position. He hesitated for a moment before deciding to stay on the beach. The forest, partly visible beyond a sweeping mist, would provide more cover, but it would also hold beasts, unpredictable formations, and possibly whole gaggles of doppelgangers.
Meanwhile, he’d spent half an hour asleep on the beach without running into any problems. Zac took out a set of arrays to hide his presence, and the dense rain helped conceal any imperfections in the arrangement. It was the very same rain Zac had seen before the vision ended, the cleansing shower conjured by Sevona sacrificing her soul and the remains of her divinity.
Even today, it continued its mission. Zac could clearly sense there was widespread corruption far underground, though what little managed to emerge was erased by the rain. Zac hoped there’d be denser pockets of corruption hidden deeper in the forest. It never hurt to have a little extra enlightenment on hand, and Zac had a feeling he’d soon have a lot to think about.
There wasn’t much to glean from the Crushing Death pressing down on him. Its concepts were too complex, and the insights didn’t mesh with his Dao of Sealed Death very well. Saṃghāta’s energy was quickly filling the space in his cells, which had also seen some expansion since his other half’s breakthrough.
The Abyssal Ponds were about to be filled beyond capacity, at which point paths to his Personal Void would open. The Crushing Death would enter to be refined before returning as energy that could slightly advance his Eoz Bloodline. It was a crude process, but he didn’t have much of a choice. He still hadn’t seen so much as the shadow of the Eoz Branch’s true heritage, and figuring out a suitable cultivation method for such a powerful bloodline was still beyond Zac’s capabilities.
It was the Killing Intent that drew Zac’s attention. It already permeated his body, forcing him into the state of intense, unbreakable clarity that only existed at the sharp edge between life and death. It was the purposeful desperation that allowed him to break through his limitations and emerge victorious in a pitched deathmatch.
Entering that state in complete stillness and without immediate threats was a novel experience that brought tremendous benefits.
The ancient Killing Intent was completely different from the festering resentment that lingered in the Centurion Lighthouse. It was pure, purposeful, and polished to inconceivable levels by eons of Saṃghāta’s pressure. It held the power to destroy the world yet only left faint traces as it traveled cycle after cycle through his pathways and spiritual body.
There were extraordinary insights hidden in that contained furor waiting to be excavated. Zac tried to blend his own Killing Intent with the external force and was rejected with prejudice. Three weeks of introductory refinement by his human counterpart weren’t nearly enough to mingle with the perfected intent. It felt like he was trying to mix crude oil filled with impurities with fresh spring water.
Killing Intent wasn’t an expendable resource, but reforming it was slightly draining on his mental state. In addition, the impact unleashed slivers of the terrifying force contained in the perfected intent, which struck his whole body like a hammer. Even so, Zac kept rallying and sending his intent to the slaughter, his eyes burning with fervor.
The effect was minuscule, but it was undeniably there. The collisions were forging his spiritual body, moving it in the direction he’d envisioned for so long. The Dao Apparition resembling himself inside his Soul Aperture rose to its feet and began swinging his axe. It neither showcased the suffocating pressure of his Inexorable Stance nor the brutal fight for supremacy imbued in his Evolutionary Stance.
It was pure violence, a defiant struggle against fate and one’s enemies. War-attuned Dao flooded his body, joining his Killing Intent in the intense clashes against the foreign forces. The effect was even better. His spiritual body was the battlefield, and traces of battle were left with every defeat.
Zac knew he had his path forward.
The project of replacing his [Thousand Lights Avatar] with a [Thousand Axes Avatar] had been on the back burner for years, yet Zac had never made any great strides. He’d considered various approaches, such as fusing [Thousand Lights Chapter] with [Nine Reincarnations Manual]. The collisions between Life and Death would be the war that forged a Conflict-attuned spiritual body.
There had always been something missing from that plan, and observing the clashes inside his body finally made Zac understand what it was. Practicing his soul-nourishing manual within the confines of a cultivation cave couldn’t represent the central Dao that propped up his path. That was not his Dao of Defiant War.
What kind of conflict did his axe-based Dao hold? He rose to the top of Earth, then Zecia, by bathing in the blood of his enemies, where each conquest widened his path. Why should his spiritual body be any different? He’d wash himself in murderous intent and hostile Daos, and from conflict grow stronger. This was the route he should take for his [Thousand Axes Avatar].
The joy from figuring out a new direction of study didn’t last long. The ancient Killing Intent wasn’t some fount of endless enlightenment, and clashing with such an extraordinary force was leaving both his soul and heart embattled. Not to mention, forging his spiritual body in the flames of war didn’t mean mindlessly slamming his head against the enemy like a beast. It would take time and effort to figure out a proper approach to realigning his spiritual bodies.
There was nothing else he could glean from the ancient intent’s rampage, and Zac was starting to get a headache from staying in an agitated state too long while suppressing murderous urges. The Killing Intent was indifferent to Zac’s plight. It showed no inclination of leaving on its own, and hundreds of clashes against Zac’s Dao had weakened it by less than one percent.
Zac got to his feet, his eyes red with agitation as he began swinging his axe according to his Inexorable Stance. It wasn’t easy. His bloodline still hadn’t dealt with the Crushing Death, and he still felt as though he was straining under a powerful gravity array. Swinging his axe helped alleviate the agitation brought on by the Killing Intent, but he still felt like he’d eaten a barrelful of stimulants.
He glanced toward the forest, wracked by indecision. The interiors hidden by the dense rain filled him with an unmistakable feeling of mortal danger. At the same time, swinging his axe at the air wasn’t enough. The pressure was building, and he needed release. The island decided when Zac could not.
The countless pebbles on the beach began rattling and jumping from thumps that rapidly grew stronger, and Zac turned toward the forest line a few miles off. Trees swayed or exploded in fiery conflagrations as a pack of roaring beasts burst onto the scene with great fanfare.
Zac briefly wondered if he’d been dragged back into Sevona’s dreamland because he actually recognized the animals from the earlier vision. They were called Unvai Drakes, natives to the mountains of Sevona’s long-lost kingdom. Rather than the territorial but reclusive species that lived in volcanic regions, these drakes looked a lot more like the tainted packs that had attacked Sevona’s party.
The two dozen bipedal beasts only stopped to orient themselves for a moment before rushing straight for Zac, emitting hostility so palpable that the Killing Intent stirred with hunger. Zac initially thought they’d been attracted by his rampaging aura, then cursed upon spotting the real cause. A slack-jawed Idiche flickered in and out of existence as she ran in front of the infuriated pack.
The patterned egg the size of a soccer ball firmly grasped in Idiche’s hands made it easy to put things together. Idiche had used her B-grade cloak to sleepwalk right into a Drake’s nest to rob them. That much was fine. Zac would be the first to admit he was curious what a dragon egg tasted like. What he couldn’t understand was why Idiche was bringing the whole pack back to him. Then, Idiche was right upon him.
“What—!"
Zac was interrupted by an egg smashing right into his face, drenching him in smoldering yolk filled with dense fiery energy. Anguished howls shook the beach as Zac wiped sulfurous yolk from his face. It looked like he’d found his release.

2025-06-09 00:42:17 +0000 UTCSomehow I get a feeling that Esmeralda will warm up towards this lass. She has a potential of great thief after all :d

2025-06-09 00:15:31 +0000 UTCWell not really, I mean sure Verun is still early D grade but she and Zac saw most extreme shock temperings for their spirits and hearts. Also boi Haro is growing up quite nicely too

2025-06-09 00:06:38 +0000 UTCWould be interesting if leadio is the primo. Eternal avengers sounds like a Eoz bloodline. “ Zac guessed that the Primo was either the founder of the Undead Empire or the current Emperor (Chapter 471). It is later heavily implied, if not outright confirmed, that the very same Primo that ruled today lived before the System (Chapter 1,040).” wiki im sure leadio technically was in charge of large amounts of the hells and heavens.

2025-06-08 17:31:04 +0000 UTC“…the first surge of Killing Intent—the one he received upon communicating with the Eternal Avenger—ignored his attempts at drawing it over.” Don’t fail to remember this sentence. If I’m reading it right, the “first Eternak Avenger” would have been the one that recognized HZac as the Void Emperor. Like that’s not going to come back to us, in some way, shape or form. Something like how the Primo used the mark he got in the Kalasutra to pop into the fight. That sliver of Killing Intent is there to serve him, the Void Emperor.

2025-06-08 17:06:47 +0000 UTCI was reading the wiki on the avatar skill, and it makes me think of how (it being a spiritual based avatar copy of himself that can be specialised to each of his fighting techniques and also incorporate functionality of dao braids) this may be his way of doing what Karz can do with his dao sigils.

2025-06-08 13:40:14 +0000 UTCSo…is this Killing Intent the key that was hidden in the middle of a rock in Idiche’s vision? Because HZac certainly broke a boulder, and got something out of it. Nah, it can’t be the egg.

2025-06-08 04:19:31 +0000 UTCOkay, so with all these improvements Zac has been getting, I’m feeling like Verun and Alea have been being left out. Shoot, Verun is still Early D Grade. Any other periphery thing lagging behind you can think of? I mean, besides the Atwood Empire? I feel like I’m missing something about his equipment, or something else.

2025-06-07 10:32:56 +0000 UTCI agree. Like we get they are technically the same. But it 100% gets confusing until the context clues key in to which body it is. And others don't call his draugar body zac.. so its just kinda silly.

2025-06-07 04:25:59 +0000 UTCTavza, getting Zac and Ogras the Hell outta there. The Hell outta Dodge? Nope, the two already couldn’t dodge…fresh out.

2025-06-07 03:36:15 +0000 UTCThis. She was a sheltered princess, and now that she’s out on her own, she’s part of a team. Including paying back Ogras for carrying her around like a sack of meal.

2025-06-07 00:27:18 +0000 UTCI wonder if the author has a wall with all the concepts he's mentioned on it, kinda like a conspiracy theory nut from movies.

2025-06-06 22:59:27 +0000 UTCTbh I really don’t like how both Zac’s sides are called Zac I still wish he’d call undead Zac arkaz just cause I always get confused when there’s a perspective switch I know they’re the same person but they aren’t doing the same stuff
Borbino the great
2025-06-06 20:44:14 +0000 UTCWell that ending was certainly unexpected, you'd think she at least turn the egg into a pie before smashing it on Zac's face but I guess she was in a hurry with all those drakes on her heel and hey every plan you can walk away in one piece is a good plan.

2025-06-06 20:35:12 +0000 UTCI bet yolk will somehow help with body cultivation.
SandreX
2025-06-06 20:22:57 +0000 UTCIt's meant to be the unifying part of his cultivation to bring everything together in his technique. One constitution each for Life and Death and a spiritual body for Conflict. Ch1,113: "Every aspect of the reaver was infused into his technique, from his complex combination of Daos to the unique advantages of his body and race. Everything created a holistic system where weaknesses were covered and strengths were amplified. Zac was far inferior in that regard, even if his Stances were very well attuned to his Daos. He'd essentially fused his Daos and personality with the Mastery Skills and called it a day. He wouldn't have thought to use his Bloodline Talent the way he did if not for Kator showcasing how he dealt with the cyclic nature of his Miracle Bone. [...] "His Children of Draug-bloodline could easily carry his Branch of the War Axe, but it was ultimately a body of Death marked by the Abyss. Similarly, his other body was purely Life-attuned, even if it was cultivated by borrowing concepts of the Void. And he had his Void Emperor Bloodline and the mountain to cover the Void. That left the third, and possibly most important, pillar of his techniques—Conflict. "What if, instead of a Thousand Lights Avatar, he formed an Axe Avatar? Or an Avatar of Conflict? "Instead of fusing Void and the Abyss as he'd tried during the duel, he'd create a spiritual state where everything perfectly came together. That would turn his body into the ultimate vessel for his stances while fully utilizing bloodlines and constitutions to empower his technique. That would be a true integration, like how Kator used his Miracle Bones and Hidden Nodes"

2025-06-06 19:22:36 +0000 UTCTavza being around Ogras and Zac is definitely good for her. She wondered what she was doing with her life way back when Zac used the Abyssal Pond and I am glad she is finally getting the adventure and comrades she needed.

2025-06-06 19:08:20 +0000 UTCIt's happening! Thousand Axes Avatar! This name was first mentioned in ch 1,182, almost exactly 200 chapters ago, or more than a literal year ago. Somehow it feels even longer lol. (edit: that's because the concept goes back even further to ch 1,113, almost two years ago during the leadership dual with Kator). It's also very funny to me that Idiche's Autarch alter ego seemingly worked out that Zac needed something to kill (not that surprising for an Autarch tbh) and chose to do it by flinging an egg in his face

2025-06-06 18:36:24 +0000 UTCOhhhh tavza truly is learning to go along with the chaos. And boy ohhh boy he finally found a path forward for his Thousands axe avatar. Some pseudo enlightenment amd time is all he'll need ti fully flush it out and I can't wait. As for Idiche bringing some punching bags for zac, well, release some might and show this pretty little lass the way zac.
