EDIT: corrected typos!!!
Hi, all!
Since I’ve start showing Japanese Akita at dog conformation shows, I was taught many tips on what makes a balanced dog. These tips are actually really helpful for drawing drawing so I wanted to start a series on helping others on how to draw a balanced dog! Once you nail a balanced dog, stylizing them should be much easier!
Above is a basic domestic dog. Different breeds and dogs have difference proportions but overall, they all follow the same skeletal structure.
Today, we will focus on legs!
The points above will be explained below.
1) The “shoulder” of the dog lines up with the bottom tip of the dog.
2) The “elbow” of the arm should line up with the knee.
3) The back of the “knee” of the leg is around half the length of the front leg.
4) Important!! The front of the back foot should line up with the “ass end” of the hip.
Additional tips
- The front and back legs should be parallel When a dog is idling.
-Dont forget that dogs have a hip! This is super helpful when drawing dog butts.
- The front and back legs should be parallel When a dog is idling.
-Dont forget that dogs have a tip! This is super helpful when drawing dog butts.
-the shoulder of the front (front legs) should be a 90 degree angle.
Feel free to ask questions! Next week, we will discuss a little further! Proportions!
