SeaQuest D.S.V.

Hello one and all!
I know I don't post many journals, and I certainly don't plug a lot of things, but I want to make a rare exception. People have enjoyed my stories for many years (to varying degrees, of course) but I haven't been able to share a lot of what inspired me, the creative DNA that made me who I am. Sure, most people have seen Star Trek and Star Wars, but there are more exotic, seldom seen shows that inspired the unique way I approach things.
One of those shows was SeaQuest D.S.V. It ran from 1993-1996 on NBC. It's no masterpiece, there are some moments that are laughably bad and each season feels very different… But the world it created is enchanting and is still with me all these years later. For the first time in all that time, it is finally at a place that can be shared for free, legally.
If you have Peacock, the NBC streaming app, even the free version, you can check it out at https://www.peacocktv.com/watch/asset/tv/seaquest-dsv/7301040396181226112
This world is one that I've loved my entire life, and I really would love to be able to share it with people. I even wrote a sort of secret in universe TF story a while back. If you check it out, let me know if it inspires you, if you enjoy parts of it. It'd be amazing to talk with people about it, and if enough people like it, maybe I could do a mini-series in universe or something. But still, in these hard times, I wanted to share something that brought me great joy with others in case it might do the same. I wish you all well and thank you.

I easily remember that show. It had so much promise, especially being a Speilberg property. The first season was really good and if they had continued that theme, it could really have developed into something spectacular. But the network didn't like the ratings, it was too geeky/sciency, so they tinkered with it and it got worse....way worse. I enjoyed your foray into the SeaQuest world and really hope you do more. I agree, it is a fascinating universe in which to set stories.

2020-07-28 14:47:13 +0000 UTCSeason one is my favorite because it has that nice blend of Science, Military, and a more realistic approach where it's more like Science Possible instead of Science Fiction. Season 2 has BAAAAD episodes, but great characters. Season 3 is too grim/dark but balanced the story telling better. But season 1 is where it's at for me :D

2020-07-28 14:46:59 +0000 UTCI've always had a challenge with aquatic species on trying to make them accessible. Shark elements are easy to incorporate and my "Beneath the Surface" tapped into that. GELFs were an interesting premise. Everyone could use some gills... Octobois wouldn't be too hard. Just have to figure out how to do some other species.

2020-07-28 06:59:29 +0000 UTCYou are correct, it was a good show and definitely not a masterpiece. I did like watching it and loved all the strange things they would try. It’s one of the few shows that had everything from talking dolphins, holograms, and crazy DNA splicing.
