Git Gud Or Die Trying #31

Adrian's eyes widened with a mixture of surprise and anticipation as he uncovered the circular stone structure hidden amidst the surrounding greenery. It was as D had described—a portal that would lead him to Gurang, the beast clergyman. The magic currents swirled within the center of the circle, creating a visible tornado of air that beckoned Adrian forward.

With his hand raised, ready to step into the portal and embark on this new adventure, Adrian hesitated. The exhaustion of his recent battles weighed heavily on him, and the mud that covered his sleeves reminded him of his need for rest and rejuvenation. He let out a weary sigh and slowly lowered his hand, deciding to take a moment to refresh himself before continuing.

Adrian made his way toward the lake near the Third Church of Marika, the clear water glistening under the sunlight. He unfastened his equipment, setting it aside, and waded into the cool embrace of the lake. The water enveloped him, washing away the grime and weariness of his journey. He submerged himself completely, allowing the water to cleanse his body and invigorate his spirit.

...

Adrian slowly dressed, his equipment feeling refreshed and clean, having tended to them after his dip in the lake. As he pulled on each garment, he couldn't help but appreciate the renewed sense of comfort and readiness they provided. The fabric clung to his skin, a familiar embrace that offered a sense of familiarity amidst the unpredictable nature of the Lands Between.

Once fully clothed, Adrian let out a weary sigh and raised his gaze, taking in the sight of the starry night sky above him. The stars twinkled above, their brilliance dulled as if frozen in time. It was a sight that evoked a mixture of awe and caution, for the Lands Between held its own secrets and perils, particularly under the cover of darkness.

With a sense of resignation, Adrian made his way toward a nearby ruined church, its weathered walls standing as a testament to the passage of time. The crumbling structure seemed to merge with the night, casting long shadows that danced along the ground. It was within this forsaken place that Adrian sought refuge for the night.

Stepping through the remnants of the church's entrance, Adrian found solace in the quiet solitude that enveloped him. The musty scent of decay and the soft echo of his footsteps filled the air as he treaded the greenery that had overwhelmed the church's sacred tiles. This church had been a sanctuary for him before. It was where he had discovered the Sacred Tears and the Flask of Wondrous Physick.

As he arrived at the Site of Grace, Adrian settled down beside it. The statue of Queen Marika stood tall and regal, her gaze seemingly fixed upon him with an unsettling intensity. The expression on her stone face conveyed a sense of wisdom and power as if she were a guardian watching over the forsaken realm.

Adrian leaned against the moss-covered stone, finding a modicum of comfort amidst the ruins. The starry night sky peered through the broken roof, casting a gentle glow upon his weary form.

As Adrian closed his eyes, his weariness beginning to take hold, he was startled by a presence beside him. His eyelids fluttered open, and there stood Melina, slowly materializing from countless blue specks that danced in the air. A warm smile graced Adrian's lips as he greeted her, unbothered by the interruption and grateful for her company.

Melina's ethereal form radiated a soothing aura, a beacon of familiarity in the midst of the unfamiliar and treacherous realm he found himself in. Her presence brought comfort and solace, reminding Adrian that he was not entirely alone in his struggle against the perils of this world.

Ever since he came to the Lands Between, death had loomed over him like a constant companion. The dangers he had faced were relentless, and the weight of this otherworldly realm pressed upon his soul. It was a place that he despised with every fiber of his being, a twisted and unforgiving domain that threatened to consume him.

In this desolate and unforgiving landscape, the only solace Adrian had found was in the company of the few friendly faces he had encountered along his journey. Melina was one of those rare souls, a guiding light in the darkness.

With a gentle nod, Adrian gestured for Melina to join him beside the Site of Grace. The statue of Queen Marika stood sentinel, her silent presence serving as a backdrop to their conversation.

Adrian turned to Melina, his eyes filled with warmth and concern. "Melina, is there something on your mind? Do you need anything?" he asked gently, his voice carrying a soothing tone.

"Spoken echoes of Queen Marika linger here," Melina replied, her voice carrying a whisper-like quality. "Shall I share them with you?"

Adrian's curiosity was piqued as Melina offered to share spoken echoes of Queen Marika, and he eagerly nodded in response, his eyes fixed on her shimmering form. "Why not?" he replied, his voice filled with anticipation.

"In Marika's own words..." As Melina began to speak, her voice gradually grew distant, and Adrian's surroundings blurred into darkness. Suddenly, he found himself standing at the imposing doors of the church, but it was no longer dilapidated and crumbling. Instead, it stood in all its glory, pristine and awe-inspiring.

Adrian's gaze was drawn to a tall, blonde woman with divine features reminiscent of the statue of Queen Marika as he took in the breathtaking sight of what had once been. Her golden irises gleamed with ethereal light, and her cascading golden hair reached down to her knees. She emanated a regal aura, a presence that commanded attention.

Before the woman stood a burly man, exuding a blend of Viking might and lordly stature. His beard, as white as freshly fallen snow, was braided into a single thick braid hanging over his broad chest. He gripped an imposing axe, and a spectral ashen lion clung protectively to his back. Behind him stood a multitude of warriors, each bearing unique weapons and donned in diverse suits of armor.

With an air of authority, the blonde woman addressed the gathering. "My Lord, and thou, my valiant warriors," she began, her voice carrying a weight of importance. "I divest each of thee of thy grace."

"With thine eyes dimmed, ye shall be driven from the Lands Between. Ye shall wage war in a land afar, where ye will live and die!" The woman exclaimed, ruthlessly dismissing those gathered before her.

And although the gathered warriors, especially the axe-wielding man, seemed disgruntled, they could do nothing but turn to leave, their backs painting a desolate picture as they walked away.

Adrian listened intently, his heart pounding with awe and trepidation. The scene before him painted a vivid picture of a bygone era, a tale of divine beings and mighty warriors destined for a grand purpose beyond the confines of the Lands Between.

He found himself captivated by the woman's words, their significance resonating deep within his soul. The notion of being driven from this realm and thrust into a distant land filled with war and mortality stirred apprehension and a strange sense of familiar desolation within Adrian.

As the echoes of Queen Marika's words faded, Adrian's vision slowly returned, and he found himself again beside Melina near the Site of Grace. The statue of Queen Marika stood in silent vigil as if watching over them.

Adrian turned to Melina, his eyes filled with wonder and curiosity. "Melina, what does it all mean?" he asked, his voice laced with a thirst for understanding. "This glimpse into the past... I feel a connection to it. Why...?"

The blank expression on Melina's face faltered, revealing a hint of exasperation as Adrian voiced his confusion and thirst for understanding. She muttered under her breath, mostly to herself, a mix of frustration and resignation evident in her tone. "You really are ignorant of this world..."

With a shake of her head, Melina composed herself and began to enlighten Adrian about the truth behind the vision he had witnessed. "What you saw, Adrian, was Lord Godfrey, the first Elden Lord," she explained, her voice carrying a weight of ancient knowledge. "Queen Marika banished him and his warriors from the Lands Between, depriving them of their grace for unknown reasons..."

She paused as if to choose her words before continuing. "Deprived from grace, and cast away from the land embraced the rays of honeyed gold... people took to calling them tarnished..."

"For only those who are tarnished and unfit would be spurned by the grace of gold...."
