The first was the Spiked Cracked Tear, a crystal with jagged edges that shimmered with a faint blue glow. The second was the Greenspill Crystal Tear, its surface adorned with intricate patterns that seemed to shift and change as Adrian turned it in the light.
These Crystal Tears held immense significance for Adrian. They were key components needed to expand the mixing options of his Flask of Wondrous Physic, a powerful elixir capable of bestowing various temporary enhancements upon the imbiber.
Knowing the value and versatility of these crystals, Adrian secured them safely in his inventory, ensuring their protection throughout his journey. With these newfound treasures in hand, he continued riding south, delving deeper into the heart of the Mistwood.
As he ventured further, the reason behind the forest's name became increasingly evident. The mist grew thicker and more pervasive, swirling and curling around the verdant foliage. It clung to the trees like a ghostly shroud, casting an ethereal aura over the forest.
Each step Adrian took brought him deeper into the mystic realm of the Mistwood. The air became cooler, carrying the scent of damp earth and fresh vegetation. The sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves mingled with the soft murmurs of the mist, creating an enchanting symphony of nature.
Adrian rode along a slightly elevated cliff, his trusty steed Torrent deftly maneuvering over the jagged rocks and rugged terrain. The wind rustled through his hair as he savored the exhilarating feeling of freedom and exploration.
As he ventured deeper into the mist-laden forest, his keen eyes caught sight of a flickering light in the distance. Intrigued, Adrian urged Torrent forward, guiding them toward the source of the illumination.
After some time, the landscape unveiled a peculiar sight—a nomadic merchant amidst the wilderness. The merchant's makeshift camp was adorned with colorful fabrics and shimmering trinkets stacked upon a donkey standing behind its master, seemingly unbothered by the weighty mountain of merchandise.
The merchant's face lit up with delight upon noticing Adrian's approach. With a warm and welcoming tone, he beckoned Adrian to come closer, extending an invitation to explore his wares and treasures.
"Ahh, welcome... dear customer," the merchant exclaimed, his voice carrying a hint of excitement and anticipation. "Yes, right this way... Right this way," his outstretched arm seemed to invite Adrian into a world of hidden wonders and possibilities.
As Adrian drew nearer, he couldn't help but notice the merchant's weathered face and glowing eyes that radiated an orange hue, much like the merchant in the church of Ellah.
With a friendly smile, Adrian reciprocated the merchant's greeting. "Hello, friend," he replied, his voice filled with genuine warmth. The sight of a friendly face was always a welcome one in Adrian's book.
In the back of his mind, Adrian recalled Kale's request to offer the merchant's people trade should he meet them. With a sense of purpose, he nodded his head and asked, "If I'm not mistaken, you should be a merchant, no?"
The merchant replied, "Indeed, I am. Welcome, valued customer. Come trade in our wandering emporium..." His voice carried a hint of weariness, but his eyes sparkled with a glimmer of hope.
With a practiced flourish, he unrolled a vibrant, patterned cloth on the ground, revealing an assortment of wares that beckoned Adrian's attention.
Adrian's gaze roamed across the items, each one offering a different allure. The arrows, meticulously crafted with feathered fletchings, promised accuracy and precision in ranged combat. The shields, adorned with ornate designs, seemed sturdy and capable of deflecting even the mightiest blows. Weapons of various shapes and sizes hinted at unique fighting styles and unleashed potential.
The array of ingredients tempted Adrian's senses, whispering the crafting wonders they could unlock. And the cookbooks, their pages filled with recipes, enticed Adrian's curiosity.
Adrian took a moment to survey the merchandise and weight his options, and the merchant mistook his pause for reluctance. Driven by despair, he pleaded. "Please, buy something... I'm hungry. I've been hungry so long. Please."
The merchant's desperate plea echoed in Adrian's mind, fueling a sense of compassion within him-- a testament of the struggles faced by those who wander the lands, striving to survive and sustain their journeys.
Adrian smiled warmly at the merchant, "It's not that I don't intend to buy anything... I'm just thinking what I should buy..." He explained with a chuckle. And After a brief moment of contemplation, his gaze settled on two cookbooks that piqued his interest.
"I'll take these two cookbooks," Adrian announced, lifting The Nomadic Warrior's Cookbook (5) and The Armorer's Cookbook [3] from the vibrant display. The merchant's eyes brightened with satisfaction, relieved that his vast collection had caught Adrian's attention.
As their transaction neared its conclusion, Adrian and the merchant exchanged nods of mutual agreement. They shook hands, sealing their deal pact as runes passed from Adrian's possession to the grateful merchant.
"Thank you for your business," the merchant expressed with genuine appreciation. "May fortune favor your endeavors and bring you great success."
"Thank you for your business," the merchant expressed with genuine appreciation. "May fortune bing you more customers, I suppose..." He added with a chuckle.
However, Adrian's steps faltered. He paused, and hesitated for a moment before resolving to help the merchant a bit more.
Smiling, he reached into his inventory and retrieved the lifeless boar, its weight resting in his hands. "You said you were hungry... this should keep you fed for a while," Adrian stated, gesturing towards the boar as an offering.
The merchant's wariness transformed into a grateful smile, a glimmer of hope illuminating his eyes. "It's a different kind of hunger that plagues me," the merchant admitted, his voice tinged with gratitude and a hint of melancholy. "But I will gladly accept your good will. It means more than you know."
Adrian nodded, a silent understanding passing between them. Sometimes hunger went beyond the physical, encompassing the yearning for connection, empathy, and compassion.
With a final nod of acknowledgment, Adrian bid farewell to the merchant. He summoned Torrent, mounting the spirited steed and heading further south.
...
After fifteen minutes of riding, Adrian emerged from the Mistwood's embrace, entering a hilly area with the outline of a castle in the distance sitting atop an elevated platform of land, making it a natural fortress. The beaten path leading up to the castle's entrance was dotted with wooden spikes and other obstacles, a clear indication of the castle's defensive measures.
Undeterred by the daunting sight, Adrian guided Torrent with expert precision, maneuvering effortlessly through the challenging terrain.
As they reached the top of the hill, near the castle's entrance, Adrian's gaze was drawn to a small, leafless golden tree standing alone. Its presence seemed both enchanting and mysterious, beckoning him closer. However, his attention quickly shifted to the three Godrick soldiers guarding the entrance, their vigilant stance indicating the castle's formidable defenses.
With a calculated decision, Adrian leaped off Torrent's back, his movements fluid and purposeful. He focused his energy, channeling it into his foot as he prepared for a display of his formidable power. With a resounding impact, Adrian landed with force, sending shockwaves through the ground and causing the soldiers to lose their balance and fall.
Taking advantage of the soldiers' disorientation, Adrian swiftly closed the distance between them. His sword flashed in the sunlight, striking with deadly accuracy as he engaged the adversaries one by one. His movements were a symphony of agility and skill, parrying and striking with precise timing. The clash of steel and the shouts of combat echoed through the air.
Within moments, the skirmish was over. The defeated soldiers lay sprawled on the ground, dead. Adrian breathed a sigh of relief, his pulse racing from the adrenaline-fueled battle. With a quick scan of the area to ensure no other threats remained, he turned his attention back to the golden tree.
Approaching the enchanting tree, Adrian knelt down, carefully examining its intricate details. He reached out and gently plucked a single golden seed from its exposed roots.
With the golden seed securely in his possession, Adrian turned his gaze toward the castle's entrance, and let out a chuckle.
The castle, Fort Haight, stood before Adrian as a formidable stronghold. Its ancient stone walls and imposing towers exuded an air of history and power. As Adrian surveyed the surroundings, he couldn't help but feel a sense of irony that this castle was the same one Kenneth had asked him to free.
Adrian knew that within the walls of Fort Haight, the soldiers stationed there would pose little threat to him. Their training and skills were no match for his prowess and experience. The real challenge, however, lay in the presence of the enigmatic Mad Pumpkin Head, a creature whose unpredictable nature and formidable abilities made it a force to be reckoned with.
Despite his capabilities, Adrian had no intention of rushing to fulfill Kenneth's request. The nobleman's pompous demeanor and haughty attitude had rubbed him the wrong way, and he relished the opportunity to make Kenneth wait.
With a smirk on his face, Adrian decided to continue his journy, his gaze shifting a site of grace bellow the cliffs.
