Yet, much to his surprise, Blake vanished again. "The same trick... no, this is Soru!" Onigumo muttered, his Observation Haki flaring, warning him of an imminent attack.
Turning around, Onigumo used two pairs of his arachnid arms to block Blake's attack, while the other two pairs slashed at him from different directions.
To his shock, Blake pushed his swords away with sheer physical strength before kicking him square in the stomach, right where he had been stabbed earlier. Onigumo winced as he jumped back, pain and confusion evident in his eyes.
"You... how can a rookie pirate be this powerful? Who the hell are you?" he growled, his eyes narrowing with suspicion and anger.
Blake shrugged, resting his blade on his shoulder casually. "Blake Thorne, your run-of-the-mill pirate," he introduced himself with a chuckle. "I thought we covered this already," he added, a smirk playing on his lips.
Onigumo grunted in frustration, his face contorting as he struggled to maintain his composure. "I suppose it doesn't really matter..." he muttered, his expression darkening.
Suddenly, his body began to transform; his rear turned into a grotesque spider abdomen that bulged unnaturally under his marine coat. "I'll be singing like a bird once you're in chains," he snarled, lunging at Blake with a speed that was almost too fast to follow.
Blake's eyes widened in surprise, but he managed to react just in time, raising his sword to block the attack. Onigumo's eight sabers clashed against Blake's Tidebreaker, the force of their collision causing the ground to crack beneath them.
A powerful shockwave erupted from the impact, sending the surrounding marine soldiers flying through the air. Even Shachi and Penguin had to brace themselves, crossing their arms to withstand the force of the clash.
Blake felt the full strength of a vice admiral, further empowered by Haki and a Zoan devil fruit, bearing down on him. He gritted his teeth, his muscles straining to keep up with the relentless onslaught.
The pressure was overwhelming, but he didn't have to endure it for long. Law, acting swiftly, used his devil fruit power to teleport Blake away from the immediate danger.
Onigumo growled in frustration at the sudden interruption, but his attention was quickly drawn to Blake, who was now sprinting toward Law with his weapon raised, ready for another attack.
Blake closed the distance swiftly, and Law, anticipating his move, attempted to switch places with the vice admiral, aiming to redirect Blake's attack onto Onigumo instead.
Unfortunately for Law, Onigumo possessed formidable Haki that disrupted the teleportation attempt, causing it to fail completely. Despite this setback, Law remained calm even as Blake's blade drew closer and closer to his face.
Law was nothing if not quick-witted and quick to react. Blake, knowing just that, pressed on with his attack without hesitation. At the last possible moment, Law successfully teleported Blake right behind Onigumo, replacing him with a floating piece of debris.
Onigumo's keen Observation Haki alerted him just in time, prompting him to leap forward to evade Blake's strike. However, his evasive maneuver left him vulnerable as Law, positioned strategically, awaited his moment. With a powerful swing of his large katana, Law unleashed an invisible slash with his technique, "Amputate!"
The attack, silent and deadly, cut through the air toward the vice admiral. Though Onigumo wasn't ignorant of Law's devil fruit ability, his Observation of Haki warned him of the impending danger.
Reacting swiftly, he crossed his arms to block the attack, narrowly avoiding being cut down. Yet, in doing so, he unwittingly exposed himself to a swift follow-up strike from Blake, who capitalized on the opening from behind.
With a wide grin splitting his face, Blake surged forward with Soru, his sword poised to strike down the vice admiral. Onigumo's keen Observation Haki flared once more, yet he found himself unable to dodge the lightning-fast attack.
With no time to maneuver for a full evasion, he twisted his body at the last moment, arching his back to mitigate the depth of the cut. Blake's cutlass sliced through, leaving a long, bloody gash across Onigumo's back—a painful but not immediately life-threatening wound.
Roaring through the searing pain, Onigumo drew upon his decades of experience and retaliated. The three arachnid limbs sprouted from his back and moved in synch, turning the sabers they held around and stabbing backward at Blake.
Surprised by the unconventional attack, Blake's eyes widened in shock, but he still reacted swiftly. He deflected two sabers with his own cutlass, sparks flying as metal clashed. Using Kami-e, he twisted his body unnaturally to evade three more strikes, his movements almost dance-like in their fluidity.
However, before he could fully disengage, Blake's defenses faltered. The last saber grazed his shoulder, cutting deep before he managed to leap back with Geppo, putting some distance between himself and the vice admiral.
Law quickly teleported to Blake's side, his frown deepening as he noticed Blake clutching his injured shoulder. "Are you alright? Can you keep fighting?" he asked, concern lacing his tone.
Blake, still grinning despite the pain, twisted his muscles around the wound to staunch the bleeding. "This much is nothing," he replied, his eyes flicking to Onigumo, who was taking the opportunity to catch his breath.
"Of all the vice admirals to run into, we hit a brick wall with this guy. Luck's really not on our side," he grumbled, annoyance evident in his voice.
Law nodded, his own expression grim. "He's certainly a tough one," he said, stepping aside just in time as a marine soldier came flying at him, courtesy of Bepo.
"Sorry!" Bepo exclaimed, bowing briefly before diving back into the fray.
"Don't apologize in the middle of a fight!" Law chided angrily. Fortunately, Bepo didn't hear him, avoiding yet another circle of rebukes and apologies.
Law sighed, shifting his focus back to Blake. "So... what's the plan?" he asked, readying his sword for the next move.
Blake sighed and shook his head. "The guy's tougher and faster than I imagined... this isn't the kind of strength a simple plan can overcome," he admitted, his grin never wavering despite the gravity of his words.
Law frowned, clearly not liking the sound of that. "So what do you suggest?" he asked, his tone expectant.
Blake's grin widened mischievously. "I do have an idea..." he said, trailing off.
Law raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "I'm all ears," he replied.
Blake scratched his head sheepishly. "Remember that thing I pulled on the sea beast back in Spider Miles?" he remarked. "I think it's our best shot at taking this guy down."
Law's eyes widened slightly, and he palmed his forehead in exasperation. "Couldn't you have used it earlier?" he said, annoyance creeping into his voice. "You had a perfectly good opportunity with Ongumo's back wide open..."
Blake chuckled. "Sure, it would've been a good chance to use it, but you know the toll that move takes on me," he explained with a shrug. "If I had used and wasted it then, I'd be flat on the ground, and you'd be facing an angry vice admiral on your own."
Law nodded, understanding the logic but still frustrated. "Alright, I'll create an opportunity for you, but just so you know, I'm running out of steam myself..." he said, readying to support Blake and create a chance for him. "You better make it count!"
Blake nodded at Law, taking a deep breath as he prepared to spring into action. But before he could make a move, Law dashed forward, his katana gleaming in the sunlight as he charged toward Onigumo.
"Get ready to strike!" Law's voice echoed across the battleground, filled with deadly intent and a steely resolve.
Blake hesitated for a split second, his trust in Law outweighing his instinct to intervene. He closed his eyes briefly, focusing his energy and steeling himself for the coming clash. When he opened them again, he knew it was time to act at the sight of Law standing firm in front of Onigumo, the vice admiral's saber descending toward him with deadly intent.
Blake's breath caught in his throat as he watched Law's actions and immediately realized what he had in mind.
Instead of dodging or teleporting away, Law shifted slightly to the side, allowing Onigumo's blade to slice through his arm rather than his torso. Despite the pain, Law gritted his teeth and cried out at the top of his lungs. "Shambles!"
