So it's a huge fan theory that the c!ever girl, foxface, ate the berries on purpose. The filmmakers helped this theory by showing her during the training scenes, essentially being a prodigy at plant identification.. Its been a long time since I read the books but they may have eluded to that too..but not positive on that..
