Finally put some thought into Louis as a character! Funny how that works.
Louis Morimoto, Second-generation Japanese American, 26, currently in college for bioengineering though he honestly doesn't like it very much and doesn't have the best grades.
He's under a lot of pressure from his family to be successful and struggles with self-worth and anxiety as well as body dysmorphia, hence the loose baggy clothing. He's very gay but closeted and has very low self-esteem. Put all these together and it's no wonder he gravitated into BDSM.
Speaking from personal experience, one of the attractions of a Sub to the kink lifestyle is the ability to relinquish control. Sub-space is a state of mind that some describe as a euphoric 'floating' or 'flying' feeling, typically brought about by intense pain/pleasure during a scene. Clinically, it's a sympathetic nervous system response, triggering the release of endorphins. Colloquially, it's the 'head empty, no thoughts' reaction that can be brought around in a scene, sometimes just by the sheer knowledge that one is IN a scene.
Type-A personalities, anxiety, OCD, intrusive thoughts- sub-space lets you hang these things up at the door like an overcoat and step away for a minute. The trust you lay in the hands of a good Dom lets those mental stressors take a back seat. It's part of why trust is so critical. With those inhibitions down, a Sub is not always in a place to see their own limits and stay safe, so a good Dom makes sure that the scene stays safe, sane and consensual. This is also why safe-words and aftercare must exist for safe play. A good Dom will not only check in with their Sub to make sure they're doing alright, but will provide a safe place afterwards for them to come down. After every high there's a potential for a low and that's much better handled with a blanket and a juicebox than with a pat on the back and a 'call me later'.
Please note that I'm by no means an expert. If you want to learn more there are many, many better sources out there. And don't take Louis as an example of what to do right. Poor fella needs some therapy more than he needs a dick buuuuut here I am drawing dicks anyway. :')
