Dear X Episode 8

"Before Judgement"

Comments

I feel like she DID know that there was a possibility he would take her own life, especially since a few episodes ago before they started dating when he caught her at his grandma's place and they were talking outside she said "do you know what everyone says about you? that you are going to die, they can all tell that you are lonely" something along the lines of that, and she also knows he takes anti depressant. I think her saying that if she was in the same position she would've chosen different is just her trying to say that she's not weak like him.

I think Junseo is also the only one who truly knows how Ah Jin‘s father was murdered. As in he was there and kind of participated. As far as I remember Jaeoh believes the official story which Choi Jungho went to prison for to be the truth without knowing of Ah Jin‘s plan and her involvement. Ah Jin has no reason to tell him about it and neither does Junseo. That probably influenced how the two of them thought about the grandma‘s death a lot with Jaeoh not even entertaining the thought that Ah Jin could have killed her.

was he actually her X tho? he was more of a collateral i feel like… but yea his story is tragic :(

She absolutely had a chance for a better life after her father died. She is the one who is not moving forward even though there is a ton of people who want the best for her. She is thinking she has no "hope" all on her own. It's just greediness and wanting to control/manipulate everyone at this point. Just because she felt bad once for someone doesn't erase everything she has done.

I really enjoyed your discussion at the end, though I have a slightly different reading of Junseo's reaction to the video. I think his relationship with Ah-jin and his response in that moment are even more layered than they initially appear. He's aware she manipulates him, and his love for her has always been entangled with his guilt. She represents both his emotional anchor and his burden. Discovering she killed granny could have been his way out, proof that she's beyond saving, which might have freed him from that guilt. But his hysterical laughter followed by that grim expression suggests something more conflicted: maybe there's still a sliver of hope for her redemption, which means he remains bound to her. I think his feelings are incredibly complex, caught between love, guilt, and the painful recognition that she may be too far gone.

My favourite episode tbh, so much happened and so much to think and talk about. In the webtoon, when ingang ended himself, and junseo went to confront her as he did in the drama, she said a line something like "if I was in his place, i would've done anything to survive". Which says a lot, that no.1) she truely did not think that ingang would take himself out, she kept saying that he's weak and all, but ending your own life never crosses her mind. She said all those harsh thing to make him hate her, so that he would get over her and go on with his life, stop yearning and crying over her. No.2) this girl is ALL ABOUT survival. And she assumes other's are that way too. I really feel bad for ingang the most, poor boy, his whole world came shattering. Yet i think, if it wasn't for grandma's death, she wouldn't have broken up. She looked at peace atleast, if not happy in that relationship, was gaining success in her career thanks to ingang, wanted to be loved by grandma and started liking or had a soft spot for ingang, don't how she would've reacted to the marriage thing, but atleast breaking up wasn't on her mind at that time. But then grandma's death just triggered everything that we saw, and she had to push everything away from her.

Yuri

Of all her Xs, In-gang breaks my heart the most. Poor guy.
