There is a cliff that lies at the top of a mountain—a cliff so steep, that some say it is the edge of the world. Indeed, it seems that way to many, for it is a strange and mysterious place. No one remembers who made it, or why—but holes have been eaten into the ground, lined with rocky cervices, each leading into dark and deadly caves, uncharted by man. But the main cave—the tomb, to which this ancient entrance beckons—well… Few have entered, and made it out alive.
Adventure Seeds
- You have been paid to kill a wyvern, which has been stealing local livestock. But when you track it back to its mountaintop home, you find it being petted by its master; a weathered giant, older than ages the mortal mind can comprehend. He claims that the is waiting for his queen to return, and tames local animals to hunt for him, for he requires it for his survival. Whenever they die, he trains a new one—but the wild animals have died off from plague, and his wyvern has been forced to hunt further and further into domesticated lands for their survival.
- Sent to investigate the strange lights dancing at the top of the mountain, you discover glowing purple, blue and red runes. Beyond the corpses of giant and a wyvern, are robed figures, magic dancing at their fingertips. Their master appears to have entered the ancient dungeon before them—leaving his underlings to guard the entrance. They do not intend to let any witnesses survive, and gain access to the powerful artefacts within—nor tell others of their plans to conquer the world…
- For a large sum, you have been sent from a nearby village to hunt down a large griffon that was seen flying overhead, with some kind of humanoid victim in its claws. The trail has led you here—only, when you find the griffon, it has the accoutrements of an elven rider, and you find his ancient master at its side; dying. The sickly elf—too weak to fly without being held—claims the ruins to be an ancient burial site for his people—but he cannot gain admittance, for looters have caused skeletal guardians to awaken, and they protect the entrance mercilessly. He offers to draw you a map to ancient treasure if you help him enter so that he may die in peace.
