Here's a tricky funky rhythm part. Nunchucks are not required to play it (but they are highly recommended).
PRO TIPS:
- The right hand is the challenge here. It usually just swings back and forth above the strings, in a 16th note rhythm. What you hear as all these different muted rhythms is really just the pick hitting the strings randomly. Otherwise, it's still constantly moving back and forth like a pendulum.
- If you can stretch it, wrap your thumb over the top of the neck and mute the bottom strings. This way, your right hand can go extra janky and if you hit a wrong string, it won't ring out.
- Bonus tip for any strat-wizards: Use the 2nd or 4th pickup positions (bridge + middle pickup, or middle + neck pickup). This will give you that quacky and tubby rhythm guitar sound which every human on the planet loves so much.
THEORY TALK:
- The chords are Abmaj7 - Ebmaj7 - Cmin7 - Amin7
- The guitar part does not reflect these chord changes at all. For example, over the Abmaj chord, the guitar is alternating between Cmin7 - Bbmaj chords. How did I get a license for such madness? Well basically, there's a little trick where you can put 2 chords on top of each other, and combined they make a larger more complex chord. In this case, when you stack Cmin7 and Abmaj7, you'd end up with an Abmaj9 chord. The Bbmaj chord combined with the Abmaj7 chord creates an Abmaj9#11 (yikes)
