SSS-Rank Chaos Mage Chapter 13: Get out while you still can

For the past week, while Noah had been farming the daily quests, he also made himself more familiar with the world he was currently living in, particularly his academy campus.

As one of the top academies in the city, they had excellent training facilities, but the only drawback was that everything needed money, and he was currently broke.

The exception to this was the training facility. The use of a training room by a student was free of charge. So technically, he should be able to use it.

Noah had another backup plan just in case this one did not work out, but that was a very complicated one. He rather hoped that this one would work out. He hurriedly got down from the bed and changed into a different set of clothes before heading out.

It was late in the night, so the timing was perfect for him, as the place wouldn’t be too crowded right now. If it was at this time, he was confident he would be able to get his hands on one of the rooms. He would also be able to train at ease for however long he wanted.

Or at least, that’s what he thought.

When Noah arrived at the training building’s fourth floor, it was empty just like he thought, but there was a person sitting right outside the room. This person was surprisingly very different from the other staff in the academy.

The academy was at the top of its class and had a great reputation, so everyone here dressed to match. The students, the teachers, and even the other staff appeared well-mannered and in properly ironed clothes.

However, the same could not be said for this person sitting outside the training room. He was wearing a shabby shirt that looked like someone crumpled it up on purpose and a pair of pants with a few visible holes in them.

But that was not the most notable thing about this man. Noah gulped as his gaze dragged over the big, thick muscles the person displayed. Rather than an academy employee, he looked more like a hired thug.

There was also the big scar that started right above his left eye and ran all the way across his face, which made him look particularly threatening.

“What are you looking at, grunt?”

Only after hearing the gruff voice did Noah realize that he had been rudely staring at this person. He snapped out of it and quickly walked over. “Sir, I would like to use a training room.” He politely said.

“Eh? You want to use the training room? Then why are you standing here and wasting your time? Just go ahead and use any of these rooms. They are all empty.” The person casually shrugged.

“Oh?” Noah did not expect this, but he didn’t care. As long as they were empty, it was good. He smiled and turned around to walk towards one of the rooms. However, just as he took his first step, the gruff voice sounded again.

“You are forgetting about the entrance fees, brat.”

“Huh?” Noah stopped in his tracks. What entrance fees was this guy talking about? As far as he knew, this was a free facility. He looked confused, but the other party didn’t seem to care. “50 silver coins. Pay up and go to whichever room you want.” He nonchalantly added.

Noah blinked. It took him a couple of seconds, but he quickly realized what was happening. This crook was trying to make money on the side, probably without the knowledge of the academy.

What the hell? Was there corruption in all worlds? Even in an academy of this calibre, there was an unscrupulous person like this. He bitterly smiled and started walking back out.

Seeing this, the guy surprisingly looked a bit startled. “Heh? What are you doing, brat? Don’t tell me. You don’t even have 50 silvers with you?”

Noah nodded. For a second, he wondered if this guy was going to take pity on a poor chap like him and send him in for free. But quickly, this idea was shot down as the man opened his mouth again and sneered mockingly.

“Not even 50 silvers, huh? Someone like you shouldn’t even be in this academy, brat. Get out while you still can.”

Noah wanted to roll his eyes. Who was giving advice to whom? Either way, he did not want to waste his time here. Since this did not seem to be panning out, he had no other choice but to go for the more dangerous and troublesome plan B, becoming an adventurer.

“Am I really going to go through with this?” Noah was not sure. It might be a bit too risky, considering he did not have a single skill or technique he could rely on, but he also knew that he had to do something.

He had some kind of strange power in his possession, and he wanted to understand this as fast as he could. Otherwise, he would simply stagnate here and perhaps disappear like the previous owner of the body.

In all honesty, most of the academy students were adventurers, so he wasn’t doing something completely unheard of. But because of his "special condition," this choice may have serious consequences for his life.

Noah silently walked back to his dorm room in deep thought. Tomorrow was going to be a long day, but he was determined to make the best of it.
