Crunch In The Night Episode Discussion

There is a very loose real story to this... one that has has nothing really to do with this, but I will share it below. My birthday is also coming up August 27th. Ugh.  Let's get into the episode discussion!   

So you all know simplicity is sort of the style of this series. So when it becomes time for us to show darkness in the series, it can get a bit tricky.  I always just hope people don't think the darkness lines are rain or something.  We tried playing with light, such as the light from down the hallway or the light of the fridge.  When Spike finally does turn on the light in the final panel, the darkness recedes except for the shadows beneath the characters.  

Now for the real story that has nothing to do with this comic.  So... I take my friends on a road trip a long time ago.  We are all pretty young and just going out on our own to explore the world.  My friend in the passenger seat (I was always the driver) drinks way too many coffees and energy drinks the whole day.  We even advice him to stop doing so.  So when we finally pull into our first stop for the night, he tells us he isn't tired at all.

We tell him we drove a million miles today and we're going to bed.  So he decides to practice karate kicks and karate chops RIGHT OVER OUR HEADS as we sleep.  We knew he wouldn't hit us.  He's a loyal, good friend.  But all we hear are grunts and kicks and slices.  He finally asks if he can borrow my laptop to play the ONLY game I had on it, Civilization III.  I say go ahead.  So he sits in a corner of the room and plays that late into the night, we fall asleep.

I wake up later to the sound of something, not sure.  It sounds like gulping.  I pop up and see the room is pitch black except for the light of my laptop and the motel fridge door being open.  He's just sitting their guzzling individual orange juice bottles we bought early and eating snacks.  I asked him if he is tired yet and advised him to try and sleep or else he'd be a zombie on our next adventure tomorrow.  He assured me he'd be fine.  I remember closing my eyes to try and sleep, but just hearing the buzz of the fridge, the occasional guzzling of juice, and light crunch of snacking.  Such a weird memory.

That was the story.  I just remember that, being in the dark, in the a motel room, and the lighting.  It was just silly, and you probably had to be there.  

He was right, he was somehow totally awake the next day throughout our adventure, but he did fall asleep early that day too.  

Hopefully you enjoyed that long winded story that really didn't have a point.  I will be great when I am old.  I will tell all these unimportant and pointless stories!  I walked up a hill BOTH WAYS to get to school in the winter which had 20 feet of snow....
