Sometimes you just got to talk things through, and granted this happens quick, but this is a comic. We don't have a 45 minute tv show (which would be fun). We wanted to show the emotional side of things again and learning to get over things. They both had this underlying need to talk things through. We can't make it a wordy mess, but hopefully the silence and light conversing did the trick.
Again, this was tied with the previous episode as the least liked so far this year. In the previous post you read my discouragement of losing original readers and new ones not caring (though some do, I love them).
Panel two's background scenery is based on a real area. You can find it on Bing Maps StreetsideGoogle Maps Streetview or Google Maps Streetview. Since our characters were driving towards Seaddle from Ponyville, we figured roughly where they would be if this was real life. If you drop yourself down into the town of Kalama, Washington, you will notice Interstate 5 runs along the real life Columbia River. Somewhere along that stretch of freeway was where this scene is based from for those interested and curious. Another fun fact is when driving on this stretch of freeway along the Washington side, on the other side of the river is the Oregon side. All of Washington and Oregon's state boundaries are separated by the rivers except for a smallish portion on the eastern sides of the states where some farmland and mountain ranges separate them.
So now that your geography lesson is over, I hope this comic episode had the emotional appeal we were trying to convey. I know it's sometimes different for the writers/artists who are in a certain emotional set when making something compared to the reader who might just be sitting on the toilet or in a hurry to kick someone's knee's out and take their wallet. ;-) Have a lovely weekend everyone.
