So Did You Watch It, What Did You Think? (Discussion)

Yeah, I know that on some level Sunny is the G5 Twilight, in the example I mentioned, they weren't even going to change their names, colors, or anything. I don't necessarily mind a what-if scenario but at the time, it felt like they were spitting on everything that made G4 special, all so some CEO could buy another yacht or whatever. Sunny is a smart girl, but she feels like her own unique individual like I don't exactly see Twilight being brave enough to put on a glittery cardboard wings and protest like Sunny, and the less said about her attempt to roller skate the better.

Not to mention the songs towards the middle and end where mostly just pop references which outdated or will be after a year. A movie has to appeal to the mainstream to survive (I guess) animation isn’t cheap. I did like the rock one with sprout it genuinely made my LOL it took me by surprise haha

Another thing I’ve seen it in the comments which I agree with totally! There was actual character development with Sunny, Hitch and Izzy I feel like (due to runtime) the other characters seemed to drop by the way side a little. Plus I like how Zephyr Heights is the only place that apparently had/has an actual leader or ruler. By the time the gang got to bridlewood it was very quick and the only real event that was there was the Dance Dance Rev. game duel wager. If I have one complaint is was I wish they didn’t break out into song/singing as much and focused a little more on character development talking and world building. As long as they continue with this with a series or movie and keep the interest high like the movie has set it should be good. The movie left a “oh it was pretty good, now what I need more now” feeling

It was a fun watch. I find it funny that this more modern world of Equestria (or more specifically Zephyr Heights) has stuff like smartphones and livestreams, and yet there aren't any cars, which you have in your universe. X3

That is the greatest question I have. How could a world that we left, that seemed so perfect to never end, fell apart? I know things change, maybe Twi's friends passed on and she lost her will to go on? I guess we might someday find out.

I want to know everything you pointed out. The "ali corn" part seemed so rushed an sudden and I was wondering too if that was permanent because it didn't look permanent. It never looked connected to her body. Just sort of glowy glowy light show.

The fine details were for us old-guard fans and I loved it. I truly think this series might go deeper into lore, which I would love.

In some ways, this new cast is just a reshuffling of the original Mane 6. Izzy is the silly one, that white pegasus is the sporty Rainbow Dash, Sunny is the Twilight smart one. Pipp is the fashion oriented, fame addicted Rarity. Hitch is.... uhhh, Hitch is.... He's the guy. I'm very happy the enjoyment and creativity it has spurred for you!

I watched the movie the other day and like you said there are lots of questions that hopefully will get answered in the show or maybe some shorts (like what they sometimes did between seasons in G4). In any case, was it the BEST MOVIE EVER? no, was it ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AND BLAH BLAH BLAH? no, it was a fun and cute movie and I am glad that I got to see it. I am glad that they went with a new cast of characters and a relatively new setting rather than some of the other ideas they played around with earlier on like one where Twilight and her Friends were all exactly the same just swapped around a bit (Twilight was going to be an earth pony, Fluttershy a unicorn for example). Anywho I have also had fun reading some fanfiction that came out within the past few days/weeks. Some are fun, some are bittersweet, one takes the Earth Pony's propaganda to a horrifying extreme (remember the cake twins? they would not have been tolerated in this story, not even as infants). I've also done a little bit of doodling based on G5 characters/concepts. Let's just say that it gives me something to do during the lulls at work.

Movie-making must be magic. So many fine details in this movie. Some plot points could use more explanation or exploration, but given the time constraint, it was good enough to be a good start.

I enjoyed it, I liked the message, and I'm looking forward to future building upon this base. In particular I'm hoping to find out more about what happened to cause Equestria to fall apart and what the implications of being a modern-day alicorn end up being.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, was a fair bit better than I expected. They nailed the ponies and the animations and I laughed out loud more than a few times. I look forward to the full show off the back of this.

The movie just left A lot of details about G4, like the old Equestria' map, some familiar name like "Manehattan" on the cable car time table, there are many of those! Are Boulder media making this an archeological story?

***Spoilers*** One major question I have is if Sunny is an actual Alicorn or was it like like a temp magic boost because with the animation (which was really really good throughout the movie) it looked glowy/magical and she didn’t grow an actual horn and wings. Of course I’m excited to see what more they add to the lore and how the ancient times were after the ending of the last gen. and how it all connects. Would also like to know more exactly how magic disappeared. There is more haha but I like having questions and it’s exciting to see what and how they take it from here.

I thought that was strange too. I think it was too early and kind of un-needed. Because we are left with a group that looks strikingly similar to the Mane 6.

They did a good job translating the pony design into 3 dimensions. :)

I watched it and it was a lot better than I was expecting it to be. I thought at the end they fired THAT bullet a little too early but it is what it is. Better to get it over with now I suppose. And…truth be told I’m not even sure if it’s a permanent thing. Maybe it was just a power up? I don’t know for sure yet.

100% agree. The unicorn forest seemed more or less like an afterthought. Am I supposed to believe this nation/kingdom/village of unicorns just isolate themselves in some forest? It's kind of weird. There was clearly world building, but it's very strange at the moment. Isolated communities of different races. Pacing started really good, but then you could tell they had to rush things along, especially at the end. Like the 'villain's' grand scheme... kind of... meh. No one who did wrong got in trouble for their actions.

Yeah, it seemed they had to cut a lot to make it all fit. It started well establishing things, but then started going really fast. Like why did Izzy just show up (thankfully they answered it later) and how is it that if everyone can just walk between nations...towns... why have they never done it before? Is there no trade? All these major companies shown in the pegasus land, do they not go beyond the borders of just one city? Are these separate nations? Are they just random towns? Does Equestrian not exist? Is this a separate continent to Equestrian? Oh so many questions!!

Glad to hear it! They just scratched the surface on some characters, so I do look forward to knowing more. This might sound horrible... but I honestly don't feel I knew Pipp or that white pegasus much. I would be happy just watching Sunny, Izzy, and Hitch on screen. :D

You are a man of culture I see. :) I don't recall seeing Izzy's mouth scene, I must have been laughing or... dead... But I truly enjoyed it! I especially know they had them say the word "butt" and dance for a reason. The bonies of culture fully understood.

I really enjoyed it! I feel like some places (like the unicorn forest) and some characters (like Pipp) could have used a little more time and depth. It felt like they had to cut things out to keep it from being too long, but I enjoyed what they gave us.

It was a great introduction into the new generation. Obviously I have questions but for a start I’m super excited about what’s next. Definitely worried before going into it but now I thought the movie was a blast!

It was pretty decent, not a very in depth detail oriented plot. Cute characters and a pretty decent cast

I loved it! Especially getting to see more cute ponies on screen. I'm excited to see how the upcoming series turns out. They also knew exactly what they were doing with a few shots, like Hitch opening Izzy's mouth and in Fit Right In when all 5 shake their unicorn butts. 🥵
