The mysterious and unknown vibes of this little arc continue as this was a "Halloween" themed episode... without the Halloween part. It's to make the reader wonder, What is that noise deeper in the woods? Hmmmm. I guess we will have to follow up on this in another episode. But now let's go through this panel by panel.
Panel one we tried to give the impression of sunshine rays (God rays, sunbeams) penetrating the forest canopy onto the ground below. We've never done it before, but I think it turned out okay. Shading has never been a thing that we often do in this series, but we do occasionally play with lighting.
The background in panel 2 and 3 is actually different . Notice the tree stump by Twilight, or that leaning tree towards the left of the panel. They all move slightly in perspective from panel 2 to 3. It was to give the impression that the camera moved three-dimensionally, hence why Lyra and Twilight's body angles also change. If this was animated it would have been such a cool scene to have the creepy sounds heard and the camera shift like that! The things you can't translate on paper (and the little details we think about) but are not noticed by the majority of people. Okay, tangent time.
I think about that all the time. I will be watching a movie or reading a comic, looking at some artwork, and you will notice things the artists involved intentionally placed. If you pay close attention, you can see the things that they are thinking in their mind and going "oh how cool would this be..." or "If I did this, it would elevate this to a whole new level..." There is so much of that. Since these past few episodes were inspired by the series, "Over the Garden Wall," one will notice the multitude of details from that series. Heck, there are entire Youtube Channels dedicated to breaking down all the little details in that series. A good Wikia is similar in how fans break down their favorite shows, games, books, characters. Oh, um... back to the comic.
The 5th and 6th panel focus on that stove pot. In the series, "Over the Garden Wall," one of the main characters named Greg wears a teapot on his head for a good portion of the series. So this is a nod, leadings up of things to come as Twilight and Lyra... travel into the unknown.
