Most Nostalgic Game To You?

This is slightly different then the usual "what is your favorite game?" question.  We're asking which game is mot nostalgic to you?... and maybe that is your fav game.  For example, I remember I used to play Super Smash Brothers at my friend's as a kid.  I didn't have the game of a console, but I am nostalgic for it.  I am not able to play it in modern day as I don't have the game, the console, or my friend to play it with.  I'd love to go back in time, be hanging out in his room with junk food and without a care in the world.

I also remember the first time I played a Grand Theft Auto game.  I had never seen an open world game like that.  My older cousin showed it to me and said not to tell our parents we were playing it.  I fell in love with the freedom and being able to drive and walk anywhere!  I kept wanting to drive police cars and fire trucks.  He said I was so boring because I didn't hit any pedestrians.  But I am nostalgic for that game, it's radio stations, that time together.

And one more.  I was a racing game whiz back in the day.  I think it helped me somewhat with my driving skills today I use in my other career...shhh.  But yeah, I used to play every racing game in the world from NASCAR to Grand Turismo.  I remember so many games I played with my friends and we had so much fun sitting on these silly foam cushions!  I would do anything to go back in time and play those games and be in those moments again!  It was true freedom.  All nostalgia.

So as you see, it's not just the games that make me nostalgic, but the people and the settings around me at the time.  So what about you?  What games make you nostalgic?

I bet no one here has heard of my nostalgic game, but here's the link: mole.61.com It started as a Club Penguin copycat 11 years ago, but quickly weaved its own magical universe, and became a huge hit among kids throughout China, so huge that one state TV channel solicited critiques from a bunch of conservative parents and blamed the game for having paid features, put up a short news report, and attracted controversial uproar from a huge number of kids in their reddit-equivalent media page... My thumbnail actually comes from that game as well. The game hit its peak around 10 years ago, and then declined over the next 2-3 years. Magically, after 5 years of hiatus, the company decided to revive the brand as a smartphone game, and reopened the original webgame this February as part of their promotion. The webgame runs on Flash, so will soon be obsolete, but hey, its ride somehow managed to last longer than MLP.

An old turn-based wargame - Steel Brigades III. It allowed you to play historical tank and infantry battles from 1939-1999. You had to move your vehicles hex-by-hex, and make sure you went through the right terrain, or else they would get bogged down. I'm so glad I was able to find a free edition of it (complete with DOSBox) a few years back, so I can play it again! As for "modern" games? Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. I sunk so many hours into it, knew every code, and nearly 100%ed it! If only I could find that last hidden object...

Most nostalgic game is Super Mario Kart on the SNES, played that every day for months at a friend's house. Didn't even have my own cartridge. I now use a RPi emulator and bluetooth SNES gamepads to play it from time to time. Close second is Super Mario World, played that one through multiple times. The oldest games I remember are "Digger" and "Sokoban" in MSDOS on my parents' 286 and "Outlaw" on the Atari 2600. On Windows 98 I played the snot out of "Archimedean Dynasty" and "Earth Siege 2", both had unfathomable levels of depth for me at that time.

TF2, and still the best

I remember those as well. I did enjoy the more recent Planet Coaster. It brought me the same type of smiles, without the nostalgia. I also played Myst too on an old Mac. :) Lots of memories on that too.

Oh my gosh, you should see the stuff I did in Sim City 4. I went so stinking in depth with things. I was a member of the website Simtropolis and so much more. :)

oh, we are talking games, neat. For me it is roller coaster tycoon. Funny thing is that as a kid, i always feared rollercoasters. But was very happy to build them in the game. Also great were all instalations of Myst.

Ah, I loved that one as well!

I’m a little on the older side, so most of my favorite games were early 90s PC games, specifically from Sierra On-line. My most nostalgic was Quest for Glory I (aka Hero’s Quest), one of the first graphical RPGs and loads of fun. I also feel nostalgic for the great Space Quest series (which I bought on Steam this weekend, yay!).

Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, then Emerald and FireRed/LeafGreen. I played those through and through as a kid. The Simpsons hit and run. We weren't allowed to have GTA, but this was ok and I loved it. All Genesis Sonic games. Played through all of those a lot. Super Mario Sunshine, Pokemon Colosseum/XD: Gale of Darkness I was only ok at them but my little brother was even worse so I remember him always just watching while I played. A lot of early Wii games, like Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Wii Play, Wii Music, and some VC games like Super Mario Bros. My dad never played video games and the Wii was approachable enough that even he would play them with us, and my mom would play the mini golf games, and the cow race and billiards games really competitively with us. They'd actually bought an NES back when they were new and the VC release of Mario got them to play again as well.

SimCity 4 is mine. I made some neat regions of cities that are lost to bad hard drives. I still have the game, but I don't have the time required to create on that level anymore.

Zelda Ocarina of Time for me. The music was just so memorable for me. I can distinctly remember getting up early im the morning, before everyone else, going down stairs with a big bowl of sugar cereal and playing. Really takes me back!
