Not sure if you're familiar but the idea that an evil version of you has a goatee comes from a Star Trek episode. In the original series from the late 60's there's an episode called "Mirror, Mirror", where a transporter accident switches Kirk, Bones, Scotty, and Uhura with their evil counterparts from an alternate universe. In the alternate universe there's a Terran Empire rather than a Federation. And the alternate universe's Spock has a goatee.
