I think the reason Doppelganger's words got to Homelander is because of what Stormfront said to him about his need for approval. Clearly, she's an expert gaslighter and Homelander is easily manipulated through his ego. The whole Billy/Becca situation is really sad. Talk about your no win situation. I too am offended by Hughie's Almond Joy bigotry.
