i mean i wouIdnt be too trusting either so its understandable. from an outsiders perspective what coulson is doing looks a little crazy

It's never explicitly stated in any of the shows but certainly thousands of people were killed in that attack. So it's not unusual that many people in this world react to anything extra-terrestrial with fear and loathing.
