Edit: One thing that I wonder about looking back on this episode now. I know I said that Stefan was not enjoying any of the killings he was doing but he was still very extra and theatrical with Andie?? Why did he need to scare her like that? The whole point was to get to Damon, right? So he could have just compelled her without going out of his way to terrify her? Makes me wonder if there is a part of him that does enjoy the hunt but he is just in deep denial about it. That it's that natural predator behavior that every vampire has.

Yeah I can understand how being a Damon fan and having people criticize your favorite character can start to feel personal. I love Stefan and sometimes I do feel defensive when people say something about him, especially when it's something I don't agree with so I understand. I try to put myself in every character's shoes and see things from their perspective, even more this season. Even as a Stefan fan I can see where he is being wrong. Like right now I'm on S3E10 and he's acting like a douche lol. But see to me its the other way around. I started to see Damon through Stefan's eyes and I started to care about him because of Stefan and then for himself. And ugh that scene is so heartbreaking.

Another reactor has triggered a lot of fans to be extra defensive towards Damon. He finds it impossible to be objective when Damon does good and has excuses for everyone who does bad, except Damon who gets heavily criticised. I haven't watched all of your episodes, I thought I'd watch a couple and then jump to S3, however, your criticism of Damon is not on his level. I can live with it. I changed my opinion on characters on rewatch. I say that, but moreover, I changed my opinion of the direction of the show. I know you've seen it, although not in detail, and what you remember is vague, so I'll refrain from stuff that could be spoilery. Every time I watch the show I see something new, or comments in Patreon may make me look at things in a different way. To me this show is a love story between 2 brothers. I love Damon and see that to love him, I have to love Stefan too. My initial feelings towards Stefan have been up and down, but as I realised the real story, I ignored to triangle rivalry and focused on the true love of the brothers. The women in their lives are a test and a testimony to the beautiful, yet complicated relationship these two have. In my opinion, it is okay to love them both, I do. Andie didn't have bite-marks and she was able to tell Damon no, so I think he stopped compelling her. Something I only realised on a recent re-watch is that the werewolf bites seem to have an effect of making the victim see the truth about themselves. Often it is something they don't like. Usually it doesn't matter as they don't survive it, but those that do seem to have a bit of an epiphany about their behaviour. I think the compulsion of not fearing him, keeping their secret and initially falling for him still stands, but that doesn't mean she couldn't pull out of the relationship. I think she could still choose whether to be with Damon, and she did. I also think Damon genuinely cared about her and is sorry for what he did in S2, which is why he didn't compelled her any further and has stopped feeding from her. His sadness at her death suggests he cared a little bit. Stefan needs to sort out his feeding habits. They must prove very expensive when it comes to clothes. No way would he get blood marks out. He'd be needing new clothes after every meal. And somehow I don't think he shops at Primark. Virginia and Tennessee boarder each other. But at a guess I'd say a trip in a car at 60mph would be 3 and a half hours. A vampire doesn't need a road and they can run a lot faster than a car. It'd probably take about an hour at the most. I love the 'Hello brother' part. It is a reverse of the pilot. Even the tone of conversation is similar about cleaning up messes. But this time Stefan is the one on a blood binge while Damon is looking after everyone and keeping them safe while stalking someone (his brother). Damon has been protecting Elena from Stefan's actions all summer, but killing Andie just tipped him over the edge. However, Elena needed to know what Stefan was doing. She can't really move on or search for him with the right protection if she doesn't know what she is getting herself in for. Sometimes it requires a bit of tough love. The part of the episode that makes me sad is Damon wrecking Stefan's room. He is angry, feeling guilty because he is blaming himself for Stefan's predicament. He is blaming himself for Andie's death. But at the same time he knows that Stefan has to bear some of the responsibility. He loves his brother and he hates seeing him like this. He also knows that what Stefan did must have hurt. He lied to Elena telling her Stefan had flipped the switch. When it is off, vampires feel no guilt, yet when Damon explained Stefan's killing techniques to Ric, it was clear this could only apply if Stefan felt remorse, suggesting his humanity switch was on. However, I do wonder whether he was questioning this at that time. Stefan looks hot this episode. I do like him when he's being bad. How did Carol work out Caroline was a vampire? Great reaction.
