Yeah I wasn’t really surprised when Damon snapped Ric’s neck and I don’t see why Elena and even Ric would be surprised either. I feel like at this point they are just expecting too much out of Damon and it is pretty unfair for him. Yes, he is trying to be better but it is not as easy as just having the desire to. You can want to change but you also have to fight your nature and that whole speech that Elena gives him about how being a vampire doesn’t mean that you act like one is kind of dumb when you think about it. How else is he supposed to act when he is in fact a vampire? You cant ask a dog not to act like a dog. True that vampires can choose because they have the ability to reason but it takes time and up to this point Damon has showed a lot of progress. But its like they expect him to be Stefan overnight when it took Stefan years to get where he was. I get that Elena has feelings for him and she feels guilty because she doesn’t want to have feelings for someone who other people consider a monster but she needs to understand that it is not all about her. This is one of my biggest issues with Elena tbh and I don’t know if its because she has grown used to being the center of everyone’s universe that sometimes she feels entitled to things. Damon is going to change for Damon and not so you can feel better about falling for him, ugh. Stefan trying to be shady lol. Bless his heart. I know right? I do wish this show had been on a different platform where they would have been able to explore different things with darker tones. Because it’s all there. Klaus’ control over Rebekah and the way he obsesses over Stefan. They could have done a lot of interesting things with that storyline but alas its the CW so … I just finished watching 3x11 and during that Caroline scene all I could think about was ... "Is Caroline reminding Klaus of Rebekah?" I just didn't mention it because I didn't want people to get offended or anything but it just seems odd that he feels a connection with Caroline while Rebekah has been daggered and he cant share things with her. I'm probably crazy and make weird connections LOL

2020-10-27 15:59:09 +0000 UTCI love your thoughts regarding Damon's growth and why. It should be about Elena and others inspiring him, not dictating to him. I do think Elena has a problem with how everyone else views Damon. She sees that he can be a good person and he is around certain people. However, that isn't always the case around others. Those people hate him and for good reason. I don't think she feels that she can step into a relationship with Damon if her friends don't approve. She wants everyone else to see the Damon she sees. I remember when I first watched this episode, and I could see what was coming. To me it wasn't Damon acting out of character, it was Elena and Alaric acting odd. If Damon had been human, he'd probably have punched Ric for getting involved. However, Damon may be violent, but punching people is not his thing. Stefan maybe, or other vampires. But he knows how strong he is and he knows that if he punches someone, he will really hurt them. To him, snapping Ric's neck would be like a punch with less long-term damage. He'd recover in a couple of hours without a scratch. I can see the advantages of a neck snap over a punch. Damon is impulsive, and has a tendency to do stupid things. Admittedly, he's doing it less, but it doesn't mean he doesn't need to let off steam every now and again. He is a vampire after all. They all need to. Caroline channels hers into bossing people around and organising things. She goes into extra control freak mode, or becomes even more nosy, when she is frustrated. I agree, Damon is a normal vampire. We know Anna took Ben hunting, so she must have killed people. She was prepared to kill Jeremy to get her mother back. Pearl was initially out to get revenge, but mellowed as she saw how the world had changed. Rose didn't like killing people, but she explained why she enjoyed it at the same time. Even Caroline has mentioned the urge to kill is there. Stefan might not like what he is doing, but at the same time, he is enjoying it in the moment. He regrets it straight afterwards, but while he is killing people, he gets high from the blood, just like every vampire does. Even Lexi did. She admitted she delighted in hedonism. Shady Stefan needs practice. He could have phrased the conversation with Rebekah as being annoyed that whoever they were running from broke Stefan and Rebekah up. That they might have been together still, she wouldn't have been daggered and he would never have fallen in love with Elena if they weren't running. Admit that time and the compulsion has clouded his love for Rebekah. And as a result it might take time for those feelings to come back. I think she would have been less suspicious if that was the approach he'd have used. Sadly, logical conversations in TV shows never really happen. I have always thought this show would have benefited from being on HBO. It is probably even more suited to HBO than True Blood was. In that show, they had to exaggerate things to fit with their audience, whereas in this show, they've had to tone the content down. I'm not entirely sure whether incest would have worked in this show. But Stefan being in a relationship with both Klaus and Rebekah would have worked for most people. Great reaction.
