That scene with Elena and Stefan was so revealing in more than one way. It continues to show Elena's self-involvement, making everything about her (she had a similar reaction when she found out that Damon slept with Rebekah). But also, on Stefan's part saying that Elena does not know what he looks like when he is not in love with Elena, I mean that is kind of his fault. He has never really been himself with Elena. From their introduction, he has always portrayed himself one way, hiding half of himself (the dark, true vampire nature he pretends is not as much a part of him as every other vampire). She may have occasionally seen his darkness but because he continues to double down on how he sells himself to everyone they brushed it off as either his blood junkie slip up or being compelled by Kluas and without his emotions.

2022-05-02 01:13:30 +0000 UTC...and about the compulsion thing...Damon was literally willing to die to stop himself from killing Jeremy. He told him many times to shoot him in the heart. How is that not fighting it? He was willing to die to stop it.
