This finale! Wow this was my favourite season by far. I cried so hard when I thought Arthur died they did it so weirdly (on purpose). What gave it away was the funeral and how we didn’t see a body there, different to John. The scene of Tommy in the boxing ring was iconic. Tommy’s break and the parallels with Polly in the beginning of the season. It’s the first time he’s had a break in a long time and you can see why he makes himself busy. He needs to distract himself. It does reminds me of when he would smoke opium after PTSD nightmares in Season 1. It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen Tommy’s PTSD and trauma. I always felt like even after Grace’s death we still didn’t get much depth other than the scene of them killing Changretta. But everything finally added up during this break: the war, the things he’s done, the deaths. I really needed a scene like that to show his avoidance in dealing with his problems. Stoicism and composure only goes so far. Actually seeing breaks in that facade is what adds another layer to his motives as a character. It would’ve been a huge mistake if something of this nature wasn’t brought up again! But anyway I hate writing long messages aha. There’s only one season left until we’re all in the same boat of endless waiting for season 6 lol
