I think saying Stefan was never truthful with Elena is an exaggeration. Did he keep things from her? Yes. I think people forget a lot about context when they talk about Stefan and how he lied to her. At first Stefan did not tell Elena he was a vampire because a) you don't do an exposition dump on someone and b) he didn't think it was safe for her to know. Now, with this in mind I do think that he should have left her alone instead but ... oh well. When she came to him to ask him what he was he didn't lie to her then, he didn't gaslight her either which he could have easily done. Then when he was helping Vickie he included himself when he referred to vampires as monsters and how he used to drink human blood. He didn't hide his darkness from her just didn't go into specifics because that is a part of him that he is extremely afraid of. I do agree that Stefan should have told Elena, "hey, I'm not like any other vampire ok, I can be scary." But then again, I don't go around and tell people I'm trying to date than I'm bipolar right off the bat. The fact that she was adopted was not even his secret to tell, it was Jenna's. So to me Stefan was himself with Elena, just not all at once. He opened up little by little but that did not mean that the parts he showed to her were not real. Also I don't think Elena's feelings for Stefan come from a desperate need to have something after losing her parents. Stefan came to her life in a time when she needed someone, that's true, but that doesn't make her feelings for him any less real.

2022-05-06 07:10:09 +0000 UTCThis might just be me, but I feel Stefan and Elena's was more superficial from start to finish then the beginning of Damon and Elena's actual relationship which as mentioned in a comment above is still riddled with people telling not just Damon but also Elena that she is making a terrible mistake. My reasoning for this (excluding the obvious future spoilers that I will leave out) is that Stefan was never truthful with Elena, never really himself, how is there any depth or anything really substantial in a relationship based on Stefan's lies and Elena's desperate need to have something good after just losing her parents?

2022-05-03 01:58:14 +0000 UTCI agree with you regarding Delena and Stelena. I'm a Stelena shipper because I have seen more of that emotional connection between then characters. Buuuut, there were moments with Delena in the first seasons, especially season 3, that made me think that I could ship them because I saw the connection there. Right now it feels a bit forced to me ))):
