You're right in that it kinda had to be Mason. It's a punch to the gut. It's not only that he's Liam's best friend, it's that he's probably the first person who looked at Liam as more than the kid with anger issues, and the fact that he walked in on Liam trying to kill Scott and was never once scared of him or put the blame on him. He's probably one of the only people to never look at him with fear. So it's more than just him being Liam's best friend, it's that he's probably one of the few people to see past the anger issues and stick with him no matter what. And of course the fact that he's so loyal to the pack. He's always trying to help in any way he can. He helped with getting Lydia out of Eichen, he helped Kira with the book, he didn't back down just because he's a human amongst werewolves. (Much like Stiles in that aspect...) He even helped out before he knew what was going on. Like with the music that was making the werewolves all weak, he didn't understand why it was doing it, but he was told it was the music and he unplugged it without hesitation. And with the Berserker in the School with Lydia, he charged at it without hesitation so Lydia wouldn't have to. He was willing to help out these older kids who suddenly started hanging out with his best friend with no explanation, just as Liam started acting weird, and didn't really ask questions. So you're right in that having it be anyone else just wouldn't have the same effect, because we don't care about some random teenager like we do about Mason. And neither does the Pack. Yes, they'd wanna save whoever it was. And yes, we'd feel kinda bad for whoever the poor kid was who was saddled with this. But at the end of the day, it wouldn't have been the same... I mean, we saw the look on Liam's face as he realised it was Mason. I mean, he knows his best friend's car, he seemed to kinda know as soon as Scott was opening it and the second he saw the bloody shoe he looked upset. It completely broke his heart when Mason showed up and basically confirmed it. That pain is what makes it so impactful. As for Corey getting Mason out of there at the end. It's understandable, I think. He clearly cares about Mason, and he was probably scared of what would happen if Mason stuck with them. Was it smart? No way... But they've all done stupid things when it comes to people they care about. (Like Scott continuing his relationship with Allison after learning she's from a Hunters family, even after Chris warned him not to... Hahaha) So yeah... He probably should've just left him with Scott and Liam, because Liam wouldn't let anything happen to Mason, at least that he could stop. And well, neither would Scott of course, he's a good person who cares about saving people. But Corey doesn't really know this. He just knows that Mason was just revealed to be the Beast and he didn't wanna risk anything. Again, not saying it was the smartest thing he could've done... But I'll let it slide because I love him and he's adorable and had good intentions... Hahaha

I love this show but I also love roasting it. Btw, I think having Crystal play that role was basically just a treat for the fans. I agree that it's not realistic for them to look the same but I enjoyed seeing her again so I don't mind it too much.
