The problem is, Sam hunting right now, being around Demons, would be like a newly sober alcoholic working behind a bar... Temptation for a relapse everywhere. It's terrible timing, considering everything, but he needs to not be around Demons for a while to start a recovery process, because it IS an addiction and he can't do his job while constantly fighting said addiction. But it really is REALLY bad timing... But also, if Dean doesn't feel he can trust Sam, it's not safe for either of them to be hunting together because Dean will be more occupied with watching Sam to either make sure he's okay or make sure he's not relapsing and doing something he shouldn't. I hate it, as I hate them splitting up and I hate them fighting, but it makes sense unfortunately. Something else... I HATE that Sam basically gets all the blame for setting Lucifer free. I mean, Dean broke the first seal. Both Angels and Demons made sure 64 others were broken, all while manipulating Sam into breaking the final one. And Cas let Sam out of the Panic Room knowing he'd kill Lilith and free Lucifer. (Cuz I'm pretty sure that's what he was gonna tell Dean in 4x20 but didn't get to...) Literally everyone played a part in the release of Lucifer, and yet Sam is the one who basically gets all the blame... Both on the show and in the fandom...
