I actually saw this movie in the cinema ( completly alone in the entire room I might add) and enjoyed it. I didn't love it, but there is definitly some good stuff going on. I think the shorter run-time for this could be seen as both good and bad. It didn't have time to get us with a big plot twist or construct characters with a lot of depth. You know almost exacly what you gonna get a couple minutes into the movies. But what you get isn't bad. Most of the characters are developed at least well. The trope of the alien boy with superpowers trying to live a normal life has been done before many times, but the performance of the young actor is pretty darn good. Its... well, its evil young Superman. Plain and simple. But its evil young Superman that tries and for the most part succeed with what it wants to be. Sometimes a movie doesn't have to be a masterpiece. It just have to be a good time.

The end tag with Yondu as an Alex Jones-y conspiracy nut seemed a bit out of place but James Gunn likes to keep his friends employed I suppose. My biggest question is "the kid is ultrapowerful, why stay in Kansas?" If I were that powerful, the first thing I'd do is LEAVE KANSAS. I've been to Kansas many times and every time I'm there my first thought is " I can't wait to leave here". LOL There are many more exciting places to terrorize and destroy.
