I wasn't expecting a fruitcake origin story. I've always felt that fruitcake was unjustly maligned and it was good to see it portrayed in a heroic light. It's a funny coincidence, but I walked over to the local bakery this morning to get donuts (donut holes, to be precise) and they had some freshly made fruitcake and I thought about getting some but I refuse to support any Christmas-y dessert treats before Halloween is over. I had no idea when I woke up this morning that fruitcake would be a topic of discussion for me today.
