The ring does play a pivotal role(s) at some point in the future. (not a spoiler, nothing in a "good" script is extraneous - it costs a small fortune to shoot films or shows, so you do not waste time and lots of money for crap that plays no role in the story) Put your seat belts on and tray tables in the upright position - we are on final approach to the first leg of the journey, and there may be some turbulence before this next landing!
