Nicely put!

Maybe they didn't hear it because people haven't stayed at AI hotels for decades.

Kelly Parks

I *love* the hotel AI.

Kelly Parks

The actor you recognized in the hotel lobby scene is Tahmoh Penikett. I recognize him from Dollhouse and Battlestar Galactica.

Kelly Parks

Well said.

I like the show. But imagine the culture shock of a detective who died in 1771 awakened today. Things like your TV would be straight up magic to him because not only wouldn't he know how it worked -- there's nothing in his worldview to serve as a starting point to speculate as to how it might work. Kovacs doesn't experience much of that shock at all which implies technology has been remarkably static for the last 250 years.

The idea of people having a problem with an asian character put into a white body in this story, means people jumping to offense without even taking the time to understand the world and ideas contained in the story, but then that's usually what happens when people are looking to be offended. Not to mention applying current day issues to a setting that is centuries ahead and probably don't even have the same mentality. When you have a world where people can be put into any body of any sex/race people would probably have an entirely different perspective on such issues. When a person thinks there's a problem that race A would be put into a body of race B, they are the ones that seem to have a problem with racism imo, implying that one is better or worse than the other. I think the whole concept of what constitutes a person as a purely a mind, and how that interacts with mortality/individuality is a much more intriguing conflict/dilemma in this setting. Is the digital copy of a person truly that person, or is there more to being a human than just the mind/memories.

BJ Stephens

This isn't true immortality. The stack in the back of their head records their memories, so when it's put in a brain dead "sleeve" you feel like you woke up in a new body, but you didn't. A new body just has your memories. But the you before that is dead. It's like when you die in a video game so you go back to a save point. Kind of.

Kelly Parks

"I'm not really into cancel culture." Just when I thought you couldn't get more awesome.

So glad you liked it. The show is based on a novel of the same name. It does have a very Blade Runner type aesthetic, with a bit of Ghost In The Shell mixed in. They clearly spent some cash on this series. First episode and we already had 2 Dollhouse alumni.
