Realistic? It's the MCU. He has a superpower. And it wasn't "magic" acid. Matt (and Stick) were both probably Inhuman, their powers triggered by trauma.

The reason I know that's a lie is because that's a human emotion you fucking robot. You don't feel those." When Stick said he was looking for Matt to be a soldier I wanted Matt to say, "Ah. Let me explain where you went wrong, and I'll talk slow so even you can understand. The way you recruit a soldier is by telling them the cause they'd be fighting for. You never did that because you're really bad at this, Stick. You suck at your job. And whoever you actually work for knows that."
