Movie: True Lies

Arnie being Arnie, Jamie Lee Curtis dancing in her underwear, Bill Paxton being the ultimate creep, Tom Arnold's lack of tact, Tia Carerre keeping the worst company, a young Eliza Dushku hanging for dear life, marriage council is for P*SS**S, bad guys sucking at being bad guys, Charlton Heston and TANGO!

TRUE LIES

The wifi connection decided to stop working at the very end so here is the final thoughts

When you think about it, the terrorist plan is quite foolish and shows they don't understand Americans at all. If they detonated a nuke on American soil their country would become a glittering radioactive lava field, devoid of all life. Not even cockroaches.

No, breaking a neck like in the movies is fiction. It's much more difficult. Don't ask me how I know.

Kelly Parks

Also, good god Jaime Lee Curtis is hot!

Kelly Parks

For the dance sequence, the original idea was for Jaime Lee Curtis to be nude but in near darkness so you only see her silhouette. It was her idea to have it be her in her underwear and brightly lit.

Not sure if you got it because you're so young. Boris and Natasha were cartoon character Soviet spies on the Saturday morning cartoon "Bullwinkle and Rocky" from the 1960's.

Kelly Parks

An ass like a ten year old boy? What? That's....what?

Kelly Parks

Nice cameo by Charlton freaking Heston!

Kelly Parks

Tom Arnold (his guy in the van) is a good actor and a funny stand-up, even though he's a complete nut case. He was married to Roseann for a while and has a scar on his chest where she stabbed him with a steak knife.

Kelly Parks

Two gun facts. First, that kind of accuracy with a hand gun is almost superhuman. Second, the automatic weapon continuously firing as it rolled down the stairs is physically impossible. Just saying.

Kelly Parks

James Cameron had just gotten divorced when he made this movie. Rumor is that shaped his view on marriage here.

Kelly Parks

I *love* A Fish Named Wanda.

You want a valentine's day movie? You need to react to Fresh on Hulu. It's a romantic comedy....until it isn't.

Not really a rom-com, but thoroughly enjoyable bit of entertainment though. Yes, the budget was BIG, and almost everything was practical effects! They used real Harriers for some of the scenes, and had a full sized mock up of one for the close ups - on a crane and on the roof of a real building with a hydraulic motion simulation platform. Which is why the building needed a tower crane - so instead of trying to hide it, they made it a story element! The Maverick missles fired from the real Harriers were CGI, and the bridge explosion was miniature. But there was at that time a new overseas highway in the Florida Keys, and the old one was awaiting demolition, and there were some spans out, so the van teetering on the edge and falling into the ocean was real.... And the stunt with Jamie grabbing Arnold's arm as he hangs off the helicopter and the car drops off the bridge - was done practically too - with stunt people. (the car dropping away was stunts, but the shot of the copter and Jamie hanging there as it flies over the ocean was her) Given your intrigue about lighting, etc, here is an excellent and detailed account of how the cinematography was performed for this block buster film: https://ascmag.com/articles/true-lies-tests-cinemas-limits James Cameron describes the story as a mataphor for modern marriage, and a Domestic Farce, taken to fantastic heights. A cross between Boris and Natasha vs Blondie and Dagwood. Glad you enjoyed it!

I believe I was the wiseguy who suggested this. I absolutely love this movie Arnold and JLC were fantastic both individually and as a couple. There was going to be a sequel but James Cameron did Titanic next and they never got back to it. Bummer, but then again probably best to let this be a stand alone movie. If you tried to explain the plot of this movie to someone it would sound like the dumbest movie ever, yet with the cast and the director we have here it was great. The cinematography was outstanding and I love the use of practical effects (very little CGI or green screen). I'm so happy you and Kim enjoyed the movie! I sure as hell enjoyed the reaction.

Eric Pfeiffer

Love the truth serum scene.
