I've thought about this a number of times and perhaps now it is more salient than ever. As is clearly expressed in the narrative and you talked about after. The thing that separates us from our future selves, is the embracing and the abandonment of emotion. Olivia's gifts are fuelled by emotion. In youth, fear for herself and in adulthood fear she has for others. While the time shifting baldies get their abilities from tech. Presently, Olivia tapping hers is conditioned by her emotional state under those direct circumstances. It isn't necessarily always explained by a plot convenience. At least in my mind that is. Glad we got to see her channelling Richard Dean Anderson instead. lol We did however see that in one possible future, that she had lived conscious to. That might not always be the case. For now, I've always considered those powers as a capped source for the majority of the time.

2022-12-10 12:55:28 +0000 UTCAnother oustanding episode with a final scene that in all the years i've rewatched it has never stopped being one of the most impactful of the whole show, the stakes are so high in that moment, for Peter is either continue on the path of vengeance and lose all of the feelings and memories he ever had for his loved ones or choose the path of hope and hold on to the one thing that separates them for the observers but follow a much riskier plan, that moment when he turns and all of the memories of falling in love with Olivia almost take over his mind is phenomenal and as painful as removing that device looked to be, his humanty is worth it, also loved the symbolism of Olivia taking the tech from his hand and putting the bullet in it, those two objects just like the two posters that we saw once again in this episode perfectly encapsulate the duality of the season. I have already given major praises to Joshua Jackson in previous episodes and while he was still amazing here the real MVP of the episode has to Anna Torv, Olivia's journey is amazing in this one, she starts at the beginning of the episode doing what she has been doing the whole time after Etta's death just focusing on the plan and keeping all other thoughts and emotions out and that culminates in the conversation she has with Simone where we see Olivia just being completely drained of the hope and faith she had at the start of the season and it's almost like she is talking to a previous version of herself, one that still hasn't lost faith in the unknowable and believes that things will get better if you keep believing it, ''it's all just numbers and the invaders, as you call them, are just better at math than us'' great great line to show how cynical she has become. Then that scene that changes eveything for her, once again things go wrong and the one thing that saves is the bullet that her daughter brought back to her, the bullet that keeps saving the word, absolutely loved seeing Olivia get easily out of the captivity of those two idiots and in the process rekindle the hope she had lost. P..S. The fight between Peter and Windmark was so cool and Peter held his own, i truly believed that if he kept goind as an observer he would have easily killed windmark, in a one on one contest i dont' think any of them would have been able to hold a candle to Peter, he was just too smart to begin with and that tech made him almost unbeatable for sure, but the cost was just too great. P.S.S. POLIVIA FOREVER!!
