Strange to see this episode become so prophetic. This was several years before Jodie Whittaker became the first female Doctor. I only saw her first season and it was pretty bad, but definitely more the fault of the writers than her. Also, Abed's "friend" Toby is played by Matt Lucas and he actually became a companion on Doctor Who a couple years after this episode, in Peter Capaldi's last season.

Luke Perry and Jennie Garth of course famously played Dylan and Kelly from Beverly Hills 90210, a show that was well before your time. Community has a lot of jokes aimed at a slightly older audience. I've seen so many reactions to the first paintball episode and most people missed the references because they were from 80s movies.
