2023-01-14 20:45:12 +0000 UTCWhat a fantastic reaction to the episode it just might be my favourite you've ever done for Fringe in general, in regard to the episode i'll use words that someone else wrote before me, as close to perfect as it could have been for the final chapter of the show. Loved your thoughts before and after the episode, i laughed for a couple of minutes to the line '' the show went batshit crazy'' XD because it's true after they layed the groundwork in season 1 they truly went for it, the didn't leave anything on the table and almost all of it worked which is crazy considering the risks they took along the way. Now focusing on the episode, i love that they didn't waste a single minute of it, all of the conversation that needed to happen did, all of the threads were resolved and f*cking Windmark finally got what he deserved ( thank god), i think i'll go through the episode scene by scene because i really want to talk in depth. We start with a great scene between September and December where we sort of get an overview of their relationship throughout the show and how much interacting with the people in this era affected the first 12 that were sent through time to ''observe''. Followed by a great ''game of chess'' scene between Broyles and Windmark, that wants to be sure that he is the mole and after he is certain he wants to look him in the eye to see if he'll blink and when he doesn't he lets him go so that he can follow him, those two actors have great chemistry together, their scenes are always super tense. Then we come to Peter finding the tape.... in terms of acting this one is for sure top 3 scenes in the entire show for me, Josh and John really knocked it out of the park in that one, from Walter's perspective this goodbye is even more heartbreaking because now he has all of the memories from the previous timeine and everything is amplified for him, i cannot phisically watch that scene without crying especially after the ''you're my favourite thing'' line which always breaks me, god i truly believe no other father-son relationship was explored as deeply as Walter and Peter's they really are the soul of the show. Walter in general has had one of the best journeys for a character that i've ever seen in any tv show. Astrid and Walter's scene is just wonderful, i loved your thoughts regarding their relationship and i completely agree, while i think that in the course of 5 seasons they coudl have explored Astrid a little bit more she is still a vital part of the group and the show. Walter and Septermber's scene was also a great closing chapter of their relationship, i loved that Walter unwillingness to let go of Peter is what unlocked September's feeling for his son which would end up being the key to changed the observer kind forever it's just a wonderful parallel. Now onto one of the most badass scenes in the whole show, Peter and Olivia that just murder a bunch of observers and loyalists with past cases of the week toxins was truly one of the best possible ways to honor the legacy of the show and its procedural roots while at the same time making the audience cheer for those horrible deaths XD. And then it all comes together at the end, they use one of the shipping lane sto open a portal but Windmark arrives to take the boy, man he was truly the most terrifying villain of the whole show imo and then Olivia just unleashes all of her anger and frustration on him and squishes him gooood. The counter twist of making you think Walter would sacrifice himself only to have September stop him to then kill him and force Walter to go was truly evil on the part of the writers, the wanted to convince you right until the last moment that a true happy ending was possible but it really wasn't because in classic Fringe style the ending has to be bittersweet. I loved that you touched on the imagery/duality of Walter walking into a portal with a little boy because i completely agree that it was the perfect full circle for Walter, he '' broke'' the universe that way and now he is ''fixing'' it, which is why i fully believe that the season 4 finale while it wouldn't have been an awful series finale it wouldn't have brought the closure that his characters needed and this one does. I will leave it at that, there is plenty left to say about the show in general and maybe in the future i will write more but for now i would just like to say thank you for watching Fringe, it has been a great journey and i've really appreciated some of your insight, if you ever have the time to revisit the show on your own time i highly reccommend it because it's one of the best shows to rewatch, so many hidden clues that you just can't see the first time around. Thank you again for all your reactions and i hope you a have a great 2023, bye!! P.S. Coincidentally this reaction came out almost on the anniversary of the 10 years since the final episode aired (18/01/2013) and i remember it clearly because i watched live, the time flies but the show only gets better with every rewatch and/or reaction, can't wait to watch more Fringe in the future!
