Your comment about the "none of the characters are dating each other" thing is actually very interesting, because imo you can see that the show initially set up several potential romances. JJ and Reid being the least subtle, but also Morgan and Elle. It's what a lot of these crime show procedurals do (Navy CIS comes to mind, it's their go-to thing), but I think they mostly dropped that in season 2. Morgan had a few flirty moments with Emily early on, but then they also dropped that.
