MARCH REWARDS 3

If ya wanna follow me on other sites or help me survive by sending money or buying merch, here's ways to access my other content! https://linktr.ee/darkmastern This is one of this month's rewards! But as I usually do with bestiary entries, this one's available for ALL to see! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- thecosmicseedrian Mainly thinking about something with Fae and the best horror mascot: Leprechaun OmegaSeph123 Seconding the Fae angle someone else suggested. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not the Leprechaun from the movie franchise, but this is a good excuse to make a lore entry for Leprechauns in my normal bestiary style! Leprechauns, also spelled as leprecauns or lepracauns and also known as Jig Gnomes, Light Goblins, Luck Goblins, or in their original Fae Tongue Ulèpum (Ool-Eh-Puh-Oh-Mm) Leprechauns are creepy little men with pitch black skin, standing roughly 2-3 feet tall. They wear various colors, always vibrant, but are most associated with wearing a bright, emerald green. It isn't strange however to find them wearing bright reds, yellows, blues, or other incredibly vibrant colors, but never dark tones save for earthy ones. Even so they tend to color themselves more like flowers than earth. Leprechauns wear curled clog like shoes made of cloth or leather, or occasionally sharp toed black buckled boots. Their outfits appear to be once regal, though now often times patched and worn as if they had worn them for many years or scavenged them from other locations. Finally the Leprechaun wears a large top hat, often times adorned with a 4 leaf clover, rabbit's foot, or other various trinkets and items associated with luck. Beneath the vibrant garments, the Leprechaun's appear to be pure black, almost shadowed entities. They emit a bio-luminescent glow whenever observed by a creature, and it is unknown if their features are truly wreathed in shadow, if mortals cannot behold their true form, or if their form is simply that of a vaguely humanoid entity with skin darker than night. The Leprechaun also possesses a wide, often times grinning, mouth along the sides of which seem to be lined with a beard and sideburns on some occasions. They possess small, nigh imperceptible nostrils, and large, black, eyes that can only be seen through the tiniest bit of white scelera surrounding them. Some believe that they used to look more human like before the fall of the Fairylands, and that the nuclear armageddon that wiped out the faelands before the dawn of man left them charred and burned, violent and alien. This seems to perhaps be the case for some of them, however not all of them are part of the Unseelie court, meaning not all are corrupted, and even those uncorrupted are pitch black in skin tone, unless perhaps it is simply something that afflicts all of them after the first were effected. More evidence points toward this possibility in the strange ashes left behind by some of them, and the fact that they often times speak to unseen things in the dark. Leprechauns are known for being violent tricksters, able to leap about with great ease, and they are able to slide under small openings and swiftly move into cupboards or drawers in an instant. They seem to manipulate luck around themselves so they become incredibly difficult to capture with their captors often times falling down, tripping over objects, or hurting themselves in some way. They may sneak into the homes of other creatures and steal objects or take food, though sometimes, similarly to brownies, they may craft items, especially shoes or hats, and leave them for the people should they provide good provisions or be welcoming to the strange creature. They seem to be related to the gnomes in that they are able to draw gold from the earth with great ease, though they seem to only have power over the mineral of gold, whereas most gnomes can draw various types of minerals from the earth. Leprechauns often store this gold as a molten liquid, drawn up and kept in a cauldron which keeps the gold at a permanent melting point. This gold can be used to dip various items, such as foodstuffs, daggers, or other small items to perfectly encase them in gold, granting them various magical properties. This can be used on living creatures to transform body parts or entire creatures into solid gold by splashing them in a violent display. Leprechauns are immune to this gold, and any burns caused by it, and they can often coat themselves or parts of themselves with gold swiftly before melting the gold away and calling it to them, causing it to move as if it were quicksilver. They may also store the gold as coins, paying for items and calling the gold back to themselves later, or transforming gold plated items into coins that will eventually change back when they will it or if out of the Leprechaun's possession for long enough. They often wield small daggers, or carry with them a shillelagh, walking stick, or cudgel of some sort with which they will often coat the head of in their liquid gold and use it to violently bash their enemies, or use it to trip creatures as pranks. They may not use the gold for evil however, and they may often times offer golden items to creatures that come to their aid, or to those who leave delicious foods or offerings to the Leprechauns. Some people whom have received gifts from leprechauns continue to leave out greater and greater snacks, desserts, or trinkets for the leprechaun in hopes of receiving more golden items of higher value, however this can work as a monkey's paw as the leprechaun may turn your most valuable or loved possessions, such as your lover, pet, or children, into solid gold as well, and most are not pleased if you want to return their gift. Leprechauns are not only masters at manipulating gold, but they can also bend light. They can summon primal magics that allow for the manipulation of light rays, and as such they are often times very close with, and fond of Sprites and will often work as consorts or servants to them, as protectors, or even as allies to a Titania. Leprechauns can change the color of the light around them, as well as fire glittering beams of light of various colors at their enemies. These lights possess various effects and strike like a prismatic beam of energy that melts through enemies, dazes and confuses them, blinds them, or even drives them insane. Leprechauns can leap off of light, allowing them to essentially run on the air, and when not being observed they can bend the light around themselves and teleport in an instant or become invisible. It's unknown why it can only do so if it's not being observed, however some believe that it's light refracting through your eyes to allow you to perceive them means they cannot move until you are no longer "Holding" their light with your eyes. This leads to Leprechauns to often aim for creature's eyes with their attacks, meaning many former leprechaun hunters who have actually found one are left blind if they are even "Left" at all. Many times they use this light manipulation along with various dances to cause strange moving lights and effects along with their jigs. The refraction of light around them as they use their magic often times causes rainbows to form in the area around them, especially in situations in which they put on shows by causing their glittering radiance to dance along the shiny liquid gold that they keep on their person, leading to some monster hunters and lore keepers to believe that if one follows a rainbow, they may find a Leprechaun and it's gold. Particularly powerful Leprechauns can call down massive searing beams of light, or even snuff out the light in some areas, with the most terrifying and old Leprechauns able to snuff the light from a creature's heart, causing it to grow bitter an hateful, or take the twinkle from their eyes, erasing their innocence and sending them down a path of debauchery and violence, and some can bend light to go even further beyond teleportation into faster than light travel and open wormholes, with Leprechauns being some of the few fae that can still often times open portals to other dimensions by pinching the light together between the realities within the fractal. This makes powerful leprechauns nigh multiversal beings, though they don't possess the same capabilities as some of the other more known multiversal entities such as Aeons or Great old ones. One situation in which a Leprechaun may require assistance is if it would be trapped. Though it is incredibly difficult to capture a leprechaun, it can be done through specially prepared mirrors in a lit room or through refracting light through a prism to essentially trap them within it. Spellcasters who seek the power of a leprechaun for dimensional travel, access to gold, or their light manipulating capabilities often times carry large prisms on their person to deal with such a scenario, and the leprechaun is often times bound into the prism in the same way demons exorcised from humans can be trapped in blessed glass. The prism is even more safe if it is lined with iron, or if a mirrored room is employed, if the room itself is lined with mirrors of shined iron. To do so you must often lure the leprechaun to the area somehow, and then cut the lights so that the only light reflecting in the room is both on the Leprechaun and the mirror or prism to cause it's manipulation of light to only allow itself to be trapped in place or within the prism's refraction. This is not something that can be done normally and often requires expert planning and a powerful wizard to perform. Leprechauns are willing to offer use of their magics to those willing to free them, offering wishes, manipulation of luck, large sums of money, women, or even offering to bring them to the various fairy lands. Though often times these wishes or desires can be granted, the Leprechaun will always exact revenge upon the creature in some form, be it through ironic wish fulfillment, or some hideous and violent way that leaves them unrecognizable... Leprechauns are rare on Earth as well as on Urth. On Earth the are known as Irish myths and mascots for St. Patricks Day with some of their lore being correct, and with many people celebrating their existence, making them the third most well known fae next to fairies and goblins. On Urth they are similarly revered with light witches often making offerings to Leprechauns, and some of the various folk derivative races such as the Sylvalyin often times telling stories of, or mimicking the dances of the Leprechauns and various spellcasters occasionally trying to capture one for their strange magic needs... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I love Leprechauns, and they're strangely powerful in my lore. And VERY dangerous, and I wanted to make them somethin a bit different than we usually see them as while keeping their classic lore mostly intact.
