Lavender Witch

I am stuck in a neverending client job and almost forgot how to draw for myself. So I tried again just to remind myself and not to get too miserable. I sat there with a pen and a completely empty head and had absolutely no idea what to draw... and what drawing is in general...

But just recently I have filled our apartment and balcony with lavender, so throughout the day I sometimes get surprised by a subtle lavender smell.

(welcome to my bed)

So I just drew a cute lavender witch. While drawing her I started imagining what her life might be and more and more pictures started appearing in my head. Now she lives somewhere on the (possibly French) countryside with her pig familiar and grows & sells lavender. It's fascinating how the simple act of drawing something can get your creative juices flowing again.

With every drawing I challenged myself a little more. First just a pretty head, than a full body doing something:

Then even some environment (and pig!):

And with the last, but biggest drawing I felt so brave that I drew her entire house:

Even with years of experience  backgrounds are still terrifying to me. But I want to change that and try to find ways to simplify and stylize environment details. I searched for a bunch of inspiration and references on Pinterest for this one.

I really like how this small series turned out and I am glad I picked up a brush pen today. Now I can go back to work and not feel like I completely forgot how to do personal art.

Are you familiar with this experience that your characters come to life while you are drawing them? I can absolutely recommend trying to draw little stories or situations with your characters to get to know them better and make them more relatable.

P.S.: I am still sending out Moonshine zines! I did not expect there would be so many of you! Probably will have to reprint the first issue. You are amazing!!

Yeah, you kinda get to know them better while they are in your head. Fascinating! And I hope those shipping issues get resolved soon. I keep checking the website of our postal service regularly. I don't even know what exactly the problem is.

I don't draw... I almost said I can't. I imagine if I tried I could learn. My art is in other forms, one of which is writing. And it's a similar process, I see a character in my head and as more detail comes into view their life unravels before me until I know and am able to write their story. I hope you're able to ship out to the US soon but it's worth the wait. 🖤

I love her so much! And that she's sharing the house with other witches, they must have a little lavender business together 💜

it is gorgeous ! And we can totally imagine this witch and her lavender field near Grasse. And I love her pig familiar, it's brilliant ! Kudos for the cottage ! it's beautifully done ! This combination between black ink and lavender works so well !

I also rarely do! All that lavender inspired me.

awww, dankeschön <3

Jesus, these are so beautiful! I never usually pick purple as a main colour I really should start. The little cottage is adorable!

Für solche Zeichnung vergöttere ich dich echt!😍
