2023-05-18 05:45:10 +0000 UTCIt is a Star Trek reference. When Alice says, "It's a cage, a menagerie!" It's a reference to the first pilot episode of Star Trek called "The Cage". It wasn't picked up so Roddenberry made a second pilot called "Where No Man has Gone Before" and that became the series. Parts of the first pilot were later re-used in a two part Star Trek episode called "The Menagerie". The premise of "the Cage"/"The Menagerie" was the Federation meeting the powerful psychic race of Talos IV who were able to project illusions and make you believe whatever they wanted.
