House S3E1

MEANING

Comments

Probably the only way this dilemma works in the way that it does for the narrative, is because the proposed treatment was said to be of no risk to the patient. House would usually find a way to do it anyway, to know for sure. The puzzle is all that matters. Maybe they are saying, as there was less of a thrill for him, because of the lack of risk. So that vindicates their actions. So they were right to teach him boundaries and prevent him from feeding his addiction. They don't have him behave in the typical way that he would on this occasion, because that doesn't benifit the direction that want the story to go. There's maybe too many carefully contrived sets of circumstances on this occasion for me to feel as much appreciation for the writing. This sudden minor amount of humility perhaps comes off the season 2 finale, that's a possibility I guess. I don't know, the a-b-c progression feels less organic, and more like this and this has to happen so we can have this happen, so our main character has to behave in this way. Because we need them to. Rather than because we have been laying the foundations for them to. I don't how I feel about all aspects of this one.

It doesn't matter if they tell him. An absolute medical miracle like that would probably be on the news. House would find out.
