Dev Blog 19 | Jel's Cafe | Clean bits and bobs

Hey everyone, its been a week since Ver 0.06a was released, thank you all to those who helped playtest it yet again! The feedback and bug reporting helps out a ton as this game is much larger in scale (coding wise) compared to Drawing with Nat and DNA subject Lucy.

There is no new build this week, and I'm currently unsure as to when the next build will even be ready as I want to do some more polishing work before releasing it for everyone to test. For now heres what I've been upto this week.

JEL'S CAFE PROGRESS

Intro:

The games intro has been updated with some brand new visuals. These might not be final but are very close to how I would like the final scene to play out. The only art assets left for this scene is the background which I'm still undecided on how to do as of right now.

More interactions with "???" were also added too, in addition to a new joke ending where the game will consent to you if you are over the age of 18, saying no will end the game and have a small reaction.

Finall for playtesters there is now an option to skip certain dialouge parts during the intro by selecting "Playtester mode" at the start of the game.

Player:

The player customisation has been updated, there are now 3 body outfits and 3 leg outfits. You can mix and match these however you like, and now at any time! Once the intro has been completed the player can now interact with a closet at home to recustomise themselves.

Playable Spaces:

The players home is now a walkable space instead of a menu similarly to the Cafe, the various options such as the logbook, UI, settings and other things are now interactable objects in the room. In addition as mentioned above a closet has been added that lets the player change their outfits freeley.

Characters:

Small change to characters this week, a new base background has been added for every character which will all be eventually updated to match the current area you are talking to them in. And just to make the game look a little bit cleaner, the placeholder blocks that could be found in most areas including loading screens have now been removed.

Behind the scenes work:

Outside of the game I've been planning out more things like character documents, concept art, layout planning and brainstorming. This content doesnt' get directly added to the game but I figured its worth mentioning that outside of the game I'm keeping very busy working towards it, I often share some artwork and notes in the discord server so keep an eye out there!

Lastly some bug fixes that were discovered from the last patch:

- Fixed the back out option not working when interacting with Phoebe during the games tutorial.

- Fixed Paul not recognising certain incorrect food items.

- Fixed Angie not recognising certain incorrect food items.

- Fixed James not recognising certain incorrect food items.

- Fixed Samantha and James not recognising gift items if the "View each characters gifts for this run" was chosen at the start of the game.
