Dev Blog 23 | Jel's Cafe | Logbook improvements

Hey everyone, heres this weeks blog post! It's been a full week since the release of Version 0.1a. If you've yet to check it out you can find a download link for it in my previous pateron post.

Since most work that is ahead is now artwork related there likely won't be many more playtests unless a huge bulk of work is completed or any new features are improved or added.

JEL'S CAFE PROGRESS

The Logbook:

The Customer Logbook has been my primary focus this week, getting a brand new makeover! You can see the progress it took over the last few days at the top of this post. As you can see, the logbook now actually resembles a book! Complete with new icons for each characters, a space for future art assets to go (Where Jel can be seen) and some little details like notes from Bliss.

The only things left to work on here is the background, and of course the chibi artwork for each character, for now using their old artwork as placeholder sprites.

I might also possibly look at adding some more functions to the logbook, though this is just a maybe, nothing set in stone yet.

I also updated Jel's sprite too! She now uses two different versions of her "Fullness level 0" artowrk, one exclusively for the tutorial which includes her classic design were all familiar with, and then everywhere else in the game she wears her work outfit, a cute pink apron with her sweater removed.

The rest of her sprites haven't been added just yet, and I'll likely add them once I've finished with Bliss's sprites.

The Seat 2 Bug:

This was a game breaking bug that game me many headaches in the last build, where characters in the 2nd seat/table wouldn't appear sometimes. I scanned all of the code and simply couldn't find a fix, as a temporary solution I added an interaction with the table if this bug were to occur that would instead give the player $15.

I can now safely say that the bug has been fixed. Waking up one morning I realised that the only way to truly fix it would be to redo the code entierly, as the other 3 seats worked fine, so I copied all of Seat 3's code and changed the values back down to 2, only to notice that for some reason Stella's flags were being set to Off rather than On, a simple mistake that was hard to notice. This also meant this issue was also stuck on Seat 3 and 4 too, so those have also been addressed.

The possibility of a missing customer has now gone, so you can enjoy a nice full cafe once again!
