Dev Blog 24 | Jel's Cafe + DNA Subject: Lucy | Game jam time

Hey everyone, just as a heads up before we get into this blog post. My new home is ready to go so I'll be juggling moving into there in addition to patreon rewards and further game development. I'll also be taking a break from Jel's Cafe for a full month to participate in this years Dream Diary Jam.

With that out of the way heres what I've done this week

JEL'S CAFE PROGRESS

Food and Gift select UI:

I began doing some improvements to Jel's food select and Phoebe's gift select UIs. They both still look pretty rough but are a little bit easier to navigate now. Once I return to work on this project I'll continue cleaning these areas up.

Misc:

I added a new desk sprite to Bliss' office, nice and simple. I still plan on adding more decorations and props overtime.

The last major change I did this week was add new temporary images for every character that will be replaced with their eventually finished artwork and their levels of weight gain. Each character now has 8 images that are labeled F0 to F7 which act as their progress for now. In addition to this every characters code was updated so now these higher sizes can be reached as before it capped at 35.

Thats it for now when it comes to progress on Jel's Cafe, I'm going to take a break from the project for a little bit and instead return to an older project for this years Dream Diary game Jam.

Last year I made a small game within a month called DNA Subject: Lucy. It was a Yume Nikki fangame similar to Drawing with Nat. I have had tons of ideas for continuing the project but decided not to work on it outside of the game jam because at the time I was a little bit fed up of just working on walking/exploration games and also if I were to work on the game outside of the jam time I would not be allowed to continue working on it for this years jam.

DNA SUBJECT: LUCY PROGRESS

The game jam starts next week, on the 15th of May, but before things begin we are allowed to work on the character sprites and do concept work and planning. Which is what I've been doing for now.

The only brand new change that I have added is updated all of Lucy's North facing sprites changing her suspender straps to an X shape rather than going straight down, just to make the back sprites look a bit more unique.
