Added 2022-02-01 19:01:01 +0000 UTCThis has been a journey of self-discovery for me. Why are shadar-kai the first humanoids to get 8 variants? I've never used them in a game. I don't particularly like them. But here we are. I am become Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Ravenway, destroyer of worlds.
Anyways, the Gloom Weaver has a spear made of shadows that can strike foes a more-or-less arbitrary distance away as long as the attack doesn't pass through any bright light, and if it hits you you get vertigo. Its Armor of Years hits you with a load of necrotic damage and ages you a decade or two the first time it gets hit each round, and its shadow jaunt lets it teleport and turn into a ghost for a turn as a reaction to taking damage.
The Blacksoul is the beefed up version of the Witch. Its blackfire now has a 15 ft. range so it can hit people blinded by its Curse of Beshadowed Mind, and lights you on necrofire, which prevents healing as long as it burns. It also got another curse in the form of its Curse of the Bloody Tongue, which demands you make a Con save any time you want to speak or cast a spell. Its Deep Shadow now deals a fair bit of damage, and it gets a reaction to Snuff out any lights that get too close to it.
