This was an odd show for me as a contextual whole. Leaning quite successfully into the absurdism, ineffectualisum, narcissism, grandiosity, individualism vs relationships of codependency. It did keep me interested enough to keep coming back week to week. My attention waned a little at points as I felt it did trip over itself to make a coherent, cogent and cohesive impression on what the crux of the self-titled central character was meant to be making, if any. But it did save itself at the end by things coming together to make an interesting statement on legacy. Perhaps another victim of the show renewal system that can often hurt the writing at times. So this brings me on to agree on the point you were making. I had to start a three season rule for US shows to avoid the disappointment delivered by nonsensical reasons. Which obviously has gotten worse over the decades. There are definitely a number of great shows that wouldn't have lived to become as big and highly regarded as they were under such an impatient and arbitrary system. Two of my favourite shows would have never become what they were to audiences if they had been started in the modern era. One became one of most beloved sitcoms spanning over 20 years, which had a struggle to find the audience, early on. The other being Doctor Who. The viewing figures being quite low because it aired the day after JFK was assassinated. Arguably, it did have to survive cancellation and regeneration. But without those who believed in it in the beginning, that would never have reached it's 60th Birthday last year.
